Aereth and 4E

I am sure this has been asked and answered somewhere on these boards, but I can't find anything.

So...

What's the future plans for Aereth in regards to 4E? Will we get an updated boxed set? Or, maybe an Aereth hardback?

Just curious.

(Nice avatar. :) )

Yes, we have plans to update Áereth, but more importantly, the release will include a sizable amount of new setting material, so that you're not just receiving rehashed Áereth 4e.

Awesome! Just what I was hoping to hear (or read, you know what I mean). If I may make a suggestion, can we get maps that look like the Greyhawk maps released by Paizo through Dungeon magazine? Have you ever seen those?

And this is what I wanted to confirm. Thanks!

Btw, where's Punjar located on Aerth?

It's on the northernmost tip of the Southern Province, just across the waters from the Criestine Empire.

Look at the center of the middle map from "Gazetteer of the Known Realms" and you should see Punjar. It's essentially in the very heart of the world. :)

If my image-fu check was successful, it should be in the middle of this manageable image. This is a clip from "Middle Map 8" if you have the pdf version, or the bottom of the Middle Map if you have the print version.

Punjar is the capital of the Southern Province, a filthy, enormous city, the setting for 3 of our initial 9 DCCs, the focus of our Free RPG Day release, and perhaps one of my favorite projects to-date. While the Free RPG Day release has a substantial amount of info, treat it as a teaser. I wasted my childhood running around the streets of the City of Greyhawk and Lankhmar, and have always wanted to do a city setting for the DCCs. The Free RPG Day release (and Sellswords of Punjar) are --- in my completely biased opinion --- very, very cool, but they just scratch the surface.

And for those of you haven't noticed, our recent site redesign includes an online map of Aereth. So you can now easily drill around the map to find Punjar and anywhere else:

I like new site design overall, but I must admit that the brick background of the DCC pages (such as this one is hard for me to read.

I love the new site design and can't wait to get my hands on any new Aereth "fluff". Will "The Heroes Arise" contain any gazeteer type material ?

I notice the new maps have the DCC29 adventures marked. Any idea which adventure applies to which DCC29 marking ?

Finally, I am looking for DCC31 on the new maps (or indeed the DCC35 maps) and can't find it anywhere. Any clues ?

Take a look here.

It's located near Sylvan Downs, right by the Halls of the Mountain King in the Northlands.

Harley already listed all the locations, but I just wanted to point out that you can also find them on the product pages. For example: http://www.goodman-games.com/5028preview.html

As for those of you commenting on the brick background -- noted -- we'll be fixing a couple callouts like this based on user feedback.

Harley,

Can you tell us a bit more about the upcoming 4E Áereth? How will it be presented? Boxed set? Hardback book? Stone tablets? Parchment scrolls? Will the maps be different? Will you guys include a voice-changer device that modifies DMs' voices to sound like Orcs and Goblins?

Absolutely. I think it would be a good idea if we harnessed the same advanced technology used to create the microphone for Snake Mountain. Orcs? I'm thinking demons. How is such a microphone NOT like the best DM tool ever?

That's really great to hear, seriously. I hope this comes out soon, and I'm curious too, will this be hardback, boxset etc etc????

Is musty old tome an option? :)

Right now we are anticipating a boxed set, which seems the best way to deliver multiple bound books in one clean package. While it will bring Áereth up to 4E, there really aren't dramatic changes (ala FR or Greyhawk). It's no less an old school setting, and if anything, the world is richer. We'll be offering depth and detail on certain key locations, while still leaving the bulk of the world a collection of wild-eyed rumors and antiquarian legends for GMs to rifle through.

I'm excited about the projects we have coming up. It's like being twelve again, staring at that endless rack of TSR products and not knowing where to start. Whatever your edition, whatever your style of play, we're working on useful, exciting, and --- most importantly --- fun projects that you'll be able to put into play at your table.

Sorry I can't offer more details, but right now we're crunching for Gen Con. If we can keep our collective noses to the grindstone, Indy will be a great showcase for some new (but very familiar) plans that Goodman Games has in store.

Harley, I'm ready to check out your new writings.

Fourth edition or not, a good idea can be used in Castles & Crusades.
