Wizards can use bows? That seems very odd, especially being able to use a longbow which historically required great strength and a lifetime of training. Crossbows seem like a lot better choice.

They were fun to read. I'd really like to see more character sheet photos. Especially the elf wizard-astrologer. And those covers kick ass really hard! The two most awesome thing that comes to my mind watching them are:
  • a DCC RPG boxed set, with the book, the funky dice and those modules
  • getting those pictures as posters

If my eyesight fails not, then it looks like:

Sailors on the Starless Sea is for 0-level characters.
The People of the Pit is for 1st-level characters.
The Emerald Enchanter is for 2nd-level characters.

I love the vivid colors on those covers.

Absolutely! I love that art. It just screams "Play Me".

BTW, I recommend picking up "Sailors on the Starless Sea" when it is available. I was lucky enough to get to playtest it. I won't give any spoilers. I will just say that I had an amazing time playing it and plan on picking up a copy to use against.. I mean on... my home group.

Considering the quality which Goodman is known for and how cool that art is, I am getting the distinct impression that I am going to be collecting the entire product line.

Now I need to go read the playtest reports.

Thank you for all the great playtests and the feedback guys. (And by way of full disclosure, we intentionally changed up the adventures to test the higher level play. So while we displayed the art, no one actually played through Starless Sea.)

I'm stuck in day two of airport Hades, but I can't wait to get home a read through some of the reports.

Seeing those images (all! of! them!) makes me want to play DCC RPG again.

Did I say 'want'? I meant 'need'. :D

Hi Harley! This is Michael - I played Carls'agan, the weenie Elf astrologer who had barely a jaw left when that large "thing" decided to mount me on his popscicle stick and toss me about. What an awesome death! I had tons of fun.

I've been constructing my review and thoughts - should I post them in this thread or start a new one? Or is there an established thread for playtest feedback?

Here are the highlights from my blog post, which someone else kindly linked to from above:
  • This game feels like a Hackmaster type deal, or a Runequest deal where you are dicing and dicing and adding and dicing ... it's either going to entertain you greatly or throw you off with all the fiddly-bits you can muster.
  • A good DM can make any system rock depending on how well he/she rolls with it, understands it and highlights the good parts while minimizing the bad parts. This is going to be very true with this game with all the options. A DM is gonna have to know their sh*t to make this flow as well as Harley did.
  • Presentation of all that information is going to be tricky for newbies. It's got the potential to be a very dense game with the many rolls being made and some of the fiddly bits. Centralize/simplify or relying on the DM perhaps, but I really hope Goodman Games gets it figured out well. The spell sheets alone were pretty dense with options, dicing on success/failure (with more dicing for saves, effects and duration.) The character sheet has a ton of options and modifiers. They will need to bring newbies in with some sort of Jump-on-in option to get the hang of it.
Someone wanted a pic of my charsheet... here ya go.. (Click to embiggen)

Pretty hard to find the right words for this: "wonderful" seems almost reductive.

Christina: I take off my boot.

This is worth a whole life as a RPG player.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who draws pictures with my game notes. :)

I had focused on The Boot.

I never saw the little stick figure drawing of all of you hanging on for dear life. I love it.

That was the extent of my artistic ability. :)

BTW, that question about "where to post feedback" is to y'all, not just HARLEY. I'm not 100% sure where it's OK to post feedback on the playtest or if I should just send PMs? Don't want to step on toes here with regards to the testing.

Wow, those module covers really do scream, "Glam '70s!" They'll certainly stand out on store shelves, but I may have to wrap them in brown paper at games otherwise my players are going to P themselves laughing.

I am really excited for this game, without a doubt. I'm waiting for a playtest in So.Cal!

Mike!

I dropped by your blog. Here is as good a place as any for feedback. Joseph, and I, and the rest of the crew stop by regularly for input. Please let us know what worked and what fell short.

Thank you again for taking the time to play in the game at GaryCon. It was a huge honor to run a game for you all, and "Mushmouth" Agan rocked the session.
