Goodman Games has own rpg?
From rpg.net:
It appears that way on the surface.
Goodman is probably more interested in promoting his own "Dungeon Crawl Classics" rpg. He has been playtesting his DCC rpg at various old-school D&D conventions over the last several months or so.

Still very much in the early stages, so there's not a lot to speak of at the moment - many things can change between now and the publication date. There are some threads on this forum and various blogs from people who have played in various playtest sessions. Your best chance to learn more is to come playtest at one of the cons where we'll be running games. Next chance is the Anaheim Mini-Con!

There were a bunch of reports that popped up after DunDraCon and GaryCon back in February/March...I think Jeff RIents' blog had a report, the flyer appeared on Grogardia, there were a couple forum threads on the OSR boards...but I don't recall the links.joela wrote:Thanks. Thanx! Found a bunch of reports (including a scanned character sheet) via Google.goodmangames wrote:There were a bunch of reports that popped up after DunDraCon and GaryCon back in February/March...I think Jeff RIents' blog had a report, the flyer appeared on Grogardia, there were a couple forum threads on the OSR boards...but I don't recall the links.joela wrote:Thanks. Interesting. Retro like Castle & Crusades but with your take (e.g., spells*). Will the Dungeon Crawls Classic RPG be backwards-compatible to the 3.x DCCs?
*I HEART the idea of variable effects per spell with caster level influencing impacting said effects.

At the moment many aspects of the game are still in playtesting, so a lot may change between now and release. As such I don't want to put too much "in stone" at this early stage. Let's just say it's based on the Lake Geneva Scrolls...and they originate with a d20. More detail to come at a later date.joela wrote:Interesting. These were the main places that I first heard about the DCC RPG. I've tried searching and haven't found much more than this, however.goodmangames wrote:There were a bunch of reports that popped up after DunDraCon and GaryCon back in February/March...I think Jeff RIents' blog had a report, the flyer appeared on Grogardia, there were a couple forum threads on the OSR boards...but I don't recall the links.
As a lifetime OD&D/OSR type gamer, I love the notion of a big-time company like Goodman Games promoting "old school" style gaming.

Re: Goodman Games has own rpg?
And I'm sure there are more out there. Seems like I've become obsessed with the DCC RPG, even though it's not even out yet. Looking for playtest write-ups, pictures of character sheets, whatever is out there.
When I playtested Castles & Crusades, part of the allure was in working with a more modern version of the game I love and a version actually being supported by an active publisher.
DCC has the potential to be this as well. The hints and leads given out so far seem to paint the picture of a 3E D&D game which is philosophically very similar to the OD&D that I play so much now, only updated to include more modern dice mechanics. (I always thought that OD&D seems to have gamers grab random dice for no apparent reason. 3E tends to make similar rules systems for different situations, which I think has certain advantages.)
Now I'm off to keep looking for new hints and leads about the game....
