Anyone tried the Rangers in play?

I'm porting an ongoing campaign over to DCC. The only roadblock is that our Ranger in system X is very invested in continuing to playing something Ranger-ish (in other words, "change him to a Warrior and play him nature-themed" is not gonna cut it). I've looked at both the Crawl! #6 Ranger and one that builds off it that I found here: http://www.ageofruins.com/2013/06/03/dc ... class-pdf/. They both seem pretty good. The Crawl! one has more raw damage output while the Age of Ruins variant has better crits against the favored enemy type and some healing ability.

I was wondering if anybody has tried any of these in play and how they worked, or even if people just have an opinion (one way or the other) on which class might be better in play, or if there's a better option I haven't looked at.

I would say, "Here are your options" and let the player pick.

I'd second Raven on that.

Because

comes down to what the player enjoys (or doesn't enjoy).

The player in question has no experience with DCC, so I was hoping for a little more rigorous analysis. :)

But I think we're going to go with the Crawl! version.
