Metal Bands Are Not the Music for RPGing :)
Well, here I’ve been sitting waiting to head to church, reading from the Good Book and listening to music.
The music got me to thinking about role playing and the DCC-RPG specifically. Numerous posts and just the general feel from Joseph Goodman & Co. as well as many of the posters always reference metal bands or 70s Rock bands as the music that best suits this game. It doesn’t for me.
Growing up we had a jukebox in the basement where I also had a table that me and my buds played AD&D. The jukebox had space for twenty 45-rpm records and the majority of these were—wait for it—disco! It is disco I’m listening to this morning as well. For me, there is no better type of music to get my dice rolling than disco. Many a game was played to Boogie Nights, P.T. Express's Express, various Bee Gee songs, and of course Funky Town.
Yes I’m an odd duck, but there it is.
Disco rocks!

Man, I love disco. And here I thought I was the only one. I can't say that it particularly makes me think of roleplaying; we never played music when playing AD&D and we still don't.

Metal isn't for everyone, but there are lots of classic rock that fit the mood, I think, the more progressive stuff. Synth based stuff is good too.
But some disco totally works, like Meco (who did a lot of sci-fi disco-remixes).
And there is still classical stuff like the soundtrack for the original Conan movie, etc.

Revernddak, I agree with you. We don't play much disco at my (rare) gaming days any more. Most of my friends now-a-days are not fans of disco. What is really good is the music to Diablo II and Morrowind.reverenddak wrote:Metal isn't for everyone, but there are lots of classic rock that fit the mood, I think, the more progressive stuff. But...you have to listen to the Sword and Led Zeppelin. They have songs about The Dying Earth and the Lord of the Rings! This topic is close to heresy!
I kind of like movie soundtracks myself. The Daft Punk Tron soundtrack is cool for sci fi stuff.

I like the new Tron soundtrack as well. It is neat to compare both Tron movies soundtracks.
I own one Led Zeppelin album. My sister-in-law got it for me for one of the songs mentions Gollum. I don't know this album's name for it seems to have four symbols as its title. My friend Ragnar1965 enjoys when I put this on the boombox when we game.

Sea of Simulation (tune) from the original Tron movie is a work of sublime genius.
