GaryCON : possible games Judged by DK

for folks going to GARYCON:::::

If you want to play in a DCC game that I am DMing, during the day say around noon or so let me know.

If we have at least three players I'd say it is a go. I'm sure we can find a spot to play in the open gaming area. I'd like to keep the games down to around 5 players in size.

Here is the list of possible games I can run, pick one or more and tell me you want to play:

1. Return to Punjar : do crimes in Punjar Game or something like that, Improvised plot with random cards and such : Possible drug use and prostitutes involved , children and fundamentalists beware

1a. STOUTFELLAS: Lawful Evil Dwarves: this one is probably not for children either.

2. Reverse Sailors on the Starless sea : you play Beastmen rising from the ruins, we can do it different if you have played it before…or maybe do part 2?

2a Sailors on the starless sea: I suppose I can run the normal game, if there are enough people who haven't played it yet

3. Ride of the Black Eagle play test : This one is about the black armored guy on the third printing DCC slipcase, see goodman site

4. The Spine wizards tower play test: This one is about the pointy hatted wizard on the standard printing of DCC's spine , A wizards tower shows up in the village square hilarity insures

5. The Mind prison of Shana Dhaka play test: Launch into the plogiston and plum the depths of Shana's mind prison.

6. Pick something else and I'll run it if nothing above stokes your fancy.

Yeah, room & badge squared away. But looks like your first game there is all full, so save me a space if there's another (especially if you run Stoutfellas!)

Check in if you don't have anything else scheduled at that time. Might have dropouts.

We can do Stoutfellas if we get a couple more people solidly either Thurs afternoon, Sat afternoon, or throw it out in the evening for who ever shows for a general DCC muster. If it gets big I suppose I'll draft another DM …maybe you ….maybe Jobe.

I'm predicating you will be playing Stoutfellas if you don't schedule all your time up completely.

This one jumped out at me, but I haven't really had time to plan out my convention commitments yet. (I should have a lot of free time; I just don't have a real plan yet.)

Man! I will hope that my schedule will allow me to play if other sessions open up.
I had a blast last year playing my Fu-Manchu Sorcerer.

My daughter and I are attending GaryCon this year and one of our goals was to try DCC for the first time. However, registration opened this afternoon and all of the DCC games that fit into our schedule are already full.

So - my question is - are there any "unofficial" DCC games taking place either Friday afternoon (on or after 2:00 p.m.) or Friday evening? And if so, is there room for a dad and his daughter (age 15 with plenty of RPG experience - mainly 3.5, Pathfinder, and HackMaster)?

"unofficial" Yes.

EDIT: a spot opened up for the game on friday about 1pm….if you think the two of you can make it to that you are in. Just let me know.

Friday evening is probably your best bet. I already have a full game at noon on friday afternoon. It was my plan to do a general get together with anyone who wanted to play DCC each evening around 7 or 8 meeting up in the open gaming area (restaurant or lobby), if I'm actually eating at the restaurant in the hotel maybe earlier. We did this with DCC fans at gen con and worked well. I'm certain there will be other folks who can DM games and pretty sure if you are there we can accommodate you. If you want to figure out what I look like you can do a google image search. You also might check with the goodman games booth in the vendor area to get some direction or just check in with one of the other DCC games going on. I also believe there wil be some kind of tracking over on google plus but I won't be in charge of that.

Check in the open gaming area Thursday evening. I'm guessing I'll be getting something to eat with some goodman folks after they get done running their afternoon games (roughly between 4-6?) and then we will head to the open gaming area to see how many DCC people we have and what we will run.

It is possible you could run into us before that too, the place isn't that big. Goodman as a spot in the vendor area.

After auction…without looking I'm guessing that is on Sat. ..we can play then too! I've got plenty I can run.

Doug,

I will be arriving Friday evening, and my friend Judge Hook and I would love to play in one of your games either Friday or Saturday night. We'll keep an eye out for you!

Step 1: Locate Doug (at 7:30 PM, start looking for Doug in open gaming area, bar, front gaming area)
Step 2: Buy Doug one or more beers.
Step 3: Play DCC with Doug.

Easy Peasy...

Thanks for the reply. I wasn't aware that there will be a Goodman Games booth. My daughter and I will start there.

One final question, we're now thinking that we'll get in Wednesday evening, is anyone planning on arriving in time for any Wednesday gaming?

Update: It is very likely that there will be some kind of Sunday morning/afternoon game, though what that is exactly is yet to be determined. It is likely that it will be decided over the coarse of the con.

There is also some talk about an all wizards DCC game on Sat. night, though that certainly isn't set in stone as yet.

Agreed. I was on the "male" side and died a quick and glorious death. I can't believe the scenario ended up so close (and so late at night). We must have been within a few feet of each other and not realize who each other might be.

In my mind those games are at sort of high risk for things to go wrong, but can have a high pay off in fun. I also like the idea that they can really only be done in that type of a con setting.

You can see this game wasn't on my previous list of games. In the run up to GaryCon Jobe and i talked about a Mechanoids mashup and I prepped the two ended arena-dungeon two nights prior to the the Con. We only really figured out they were going to be the same game within an hour or so of the game starting.

Another good thing about having three DM's is having extra brain power to watch the clock.
I could see the game possibly going far longer, and everyone getting tired, so I pushed it to a conclusion. I admit it was a little ham fisted when I had the Exterminator show up and blow Rick's characters head off.

Doug,

I see Palladium republished their mechanoids series, in case your copy is wearing out at all...

I think that any "player vs player" scenarios have a high risk factor. If it's "player vs monster" and the GM messes up a rule, it's usually in the player's favor and no one gets upset, but in "player vs player" mode if one side gets it wrong someone often feels cheated.

This game was cool because (1) everyone seemed to have fun even if they died a horrible death, and (2) it was balanced enough so that at the end either side could have won.

I think Adam and Jobe get a lot of credit for that. Good judging.
