Matching DCC-appropriate Dice Sets Possible!

I've found out that if ordered in bulk, a complete matching set (d3, d4, d5, d6, d7, d8, d10, d%, d12, d14, d16, d20, d24, and d30, all in opaque white with black ink, and all of roughly similar size) would cost around $8.00 + P&P. The d3 is a d6 numbered 1-3 twice, the d5 is a d10 numbered 1-5 twice, and the d7 is a d14 numbered 1-7 twice. :)

Basically, about 25 sets being ordered would cover the initial bulk order costs for everyone, and even if I had to post 'em from the UK to the US, it still wouldn't cost folks more than about $12 a set inclusive of P&P.

I would like two (maybe three), however I am in New Zealand, would that cause a problem? Estimate of price from the UK. normally UK shipping to NZ is not that bad, strangely cheaper than from the US!

How do we go about this then...25 sets required...we have quite a few. I will check with my group to see if they are up for an order. The price is perfect.

Just to be clear... those d5, d7, d14 are really big, aren't they?

I actually just ordered some more dice from The Dice Shop in the U.K.....but what I'd really like to locate are a couple more d7s of the black casino dice variety. Don't ask me why; I just like them. :D

Unfortunately, they seem to be out of stock everywhere I look.

Look at the "Who Knew?" sets HERE. The unusual dice are smaller than the koplow d30 (which you can see in the bag) and much closer to normal dice in size. If someone has a Koplow d30 and a normal set of dice, and can display a pic showing them next to each other, we'll have a clearer picture as to whether the dice are really big.

As for making this a thing, I'll check weights and postage costs this weekend, and update folks. If things still look good, and there's enough interest to cover the initial outlay, we'll go from there. I don't want to make a profit, but nor do I want to be out of pocket, so I'll have to check and double check all figures. I'm trying to do it at cost to give folks the best bargain possible; let's face it, we've all been pretty much ignored by the manufacturers when it comes to asking for them to put together matching DCC-appropriate sets, so I decided to take matters into my own hands and try.

It shouldn't be a problem, but if you were really strapped for cash, you could wait until I emigrate to the Auckland area later this year. ;)

My "Who Knew?" set (right, purchased at last years Gen Con for $7) compared to some of my GameScience funky dice (left), with some US quarters, my car keys, an Xbox 360 controller, a tape measure, and the Goodman Games 2012 Free Rpg day giveaway for reference.

The new d7s (and d14s) are white with black ink (not multi-coloured, though you can order those if you want) according to the catalogue.

I've been crunching the numbers, and the real killers with me being in the UK are the import tax and P&P for the order to be delivered to the UK. It comes up to $10 a set not inclusive of P&P. Basically, if someone in the US were to do it, folks would only be paying around $7 a set (plus whatever P&P is needed on top of that). If anyone stateside would be willing to do it, I can provide them with all the info. needed. Then, interested folks could prepay them via Paypal and the bulk order could be made. A US-based coop would cut not only the $3 off the cost of the set, but probably make the P&P cheaper for folks too.

Impact! Miniatures' plans for their next Kickstarter may be of interest to some of you:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/674 ... sided-game (most recent Kickstarter - currently shipping out rewards )

From the Dec 15 2012 update:
We are already planning our next dice KickStarter for spring of next year to work on finishing a Dungeon Dice set. We've talked to Goodman Games and while we cannot license from them the name of their game official for the set ... they are interested in seeing the final set and possibly carrying them in the store.

So with that in mind ... what spherical dice are needed to complete the set and match up with the 8 colors we are producing. They are D3, D5, D16 and D24.

So that is going to be the focus of our next KickStarter to create sphericial versions of the last 3. The D3 is one that I'm not a fan of the designs I've seen and quite honestly I'm not sure there is a D3 design that I could offer that would really bring something new to the table. My preferred D3 is a D6 numbered 1,1,2,2,3,3 with opposing sides adding to 4. The problem is that its easy for this die to get lost in the mix. Our solution to this will be to create our D6 as a D3s in the matching 8 colors and then instead of white or black numbers all the D3s will have Gold numbers.
Feb 19 2013 update:
I've already been working on our next Dice KickStarter which will be to get funding to finish making the dice needed that would allow a person to have a full of Dungeon Crawl dice in matching opaque colors for the whole set. We received in several prototypes of the dice we are designing for this.

I own a big white D30 similar to the one in the photo above. I don't like it because it's too big & clunks on the table when rolled. I now use a smaller D30 bought from The Dice Shop Online.

I'd be in for a few sets. Even at $10 plus postage it easily beats what it would cost me here in the UK.

What I'll do then is wait and see if the (hopefully forthcoming) Kickstarter presents folks with decent dice and value, and if not, go the route of the bulk order then.

Hi Colin,

We were able to talk to Mr. Goodman at Gen Con 2013 in August and we have tentative approval now to work on creating an official DCC dice set.

We are getting the quote request back from the manufacturer as we need to order about 100,000 dice in order to make a minimum order of these matched color sets in 8 different colors and reasonable sizes (the largest die is only 26mm diameter). The sets will be 14 dice sets and have in them (D3 (D6 numbered with roman numerals), D4, D5, D6, D7, D8, D10, D%10, D12, D14, D16, D20, D24 and D30).

We are even getting a quote if we overfund to be able to make the sets in translucent (ie gem) colors as well.

Current plan... we hope to launch the KickStarter to fund the sets in early January.

I've been very excited about getting this project to become a reality and look forward to announcing it early next year.

Awesome news! I really hope that the d5 is a d10 numbered 1-5 twice, and the d7 is a d14 numbered 1-7 twice.
