Since 0-level PCs are just a bunch of scraggly peasants, the typical heroic miniatures don't seem well suited. What do you recommend for 0-level miniatures?

If you have Lego store near you they have a bin in the middle of the store usually that lets you build your own mini-figs. That might be an option.

In our first game we had a total of 21 0 level characters. The DM has a big supply of plastic minis and some of the players (including me) used peseants and similar figures. About 1/2 of the players used little plastic tiles that the DM had with initials, names or little symbols written on them in magic marker. When the action started, it was obvious that the tiles were better --- it was hard for those of us who had used minis to remember who was who. I ended up writing descriptive words like "Club" and "pitchfork" and "lantern" at the top of my 0 level character sheets to describe the different minis, but if we play the funnel again I'm going for the tile option.

For $6 you can get 84 Cheap Folks COLOR Vyllagers cardstock figures at RPGnow;

I know paper minis aren't for everyone, but at just over 7¢ per fig it's hard to go wrong.

You get a sheet of domesticated animals and a village ("vyllage") building model, too.

I use 1:72 plastic figures from Strelets, Zvesda and other plastic figure manufacturers. You can pick up some great sets of peasant levies, armys, armed with farming implements etc.

Best place to get them www.bricklink.com it's like the ebay of LEGO. Also check out Brick Arms, Brick Forge etc. for custom weapons etc.

The LOTR line is a blessing for us gamers! I have Uruk Hai's, Goblins, Elves, Dwarves, etc. it's pretty neato.

My son is working on a complete set of paper miniatures featuring all occupations from the rule book... In both normal and corpse mode.

No real ETA yet, but he's having lots of fun.

(And I have some ideas about a paper miniature creating utility that would allow you to update your character over time with new gear, wounds, corruption... Still very early, but this is likely something I'll be working on in 2013.)

Caesar Miniatures has a Fantasy 1/72 line. Cheap plastic figures, orcs, goblins, undead, elves, dwarves, adventurers.
They also have a Historical line. Knights, Romans, Celts, etc.
20-35 figures for about $8.

FWIW, I had lunch with one of my players today and we hit up the Lego store at Phipps mall in Buckhead. There was a bin, but it was pretty well looted, not much of interest. My buddy picked up a couple of the minifig packs that they sell now, though, so maybe he got a cool one.

Same here.

I'd rather pay a little extra and have a little worse quality pre-painted plastic minis then have my limited gaming time split even more by being obligated to paint.

I admire folks who can find the time to paint, but I'd rather be actually playing.

Another suggestion for paper minis - many designers give them away for free!

Check out this sub-forum in particular. I've built dozens of this guy's free paper minis (and will have pix posted here to prove it in a few days..)

I pledged $100 to the Reaper Kickstarter. 130 minis for $100 is amazing value & there's still 6 days to go. Who knows what the total amount of minis will be sent to Vampire leel pledgers.

Yeah, I contributed another $100 to the Reaper Kickstarter. Ridiculous amount of stuff for that level of support.

I'm not even worried that I won't paint them. I always intend to, but never actually do it. They still do the job for gameplay, in the end.
