Hand-Tooled (0-level) Character Sheet

Post by koboldstyle »

Hey folks!

I'm a huge fan of the hand-tooled B/X character sheets that Dyson Logos created, and thought I'd give the DCC RPG the same treatment, what do you guys think?

Image

They're tentatively for making 0-levels which is why they're half-page designs, hopefully optimizing table space. Maybe eventually I'll get around to making full folder-style class sheets, dunno. There's also some goodies included in the second page of the PDF.

Enjoy!

I like it a lot. Simple and to the point. (Of course, I'm one of those guys who likes to use a notecard for OD&D characters. :P )

Thanks for sharing this.

Thanks! I had a lot of fun making them.

I hope people find the Lantern/Torch cards useful too. They were something I thought up a little while ago but haven't had a chance until we were playtesting this.

Basically every time the players lit a torch before stepping into the dungeon, I had them mark it off their inventory and grab an index card and draw ten boxes on it.

Image

Then, as they began exploring, every time I felt like about ten minutes of in-game dungeon time had passed I had them check off a box. I was curious if this would be just an annoying fiddly bit of bookkeeping but they actually really responded well to it - it really gave them a sense of both being underground and heavily dependent on the light source (and they quickly learned the wisdom of redundant light sources with that 50% extinguishing chance when a torch got dropped), as well as a sense of constantly depleting resources. Quite effective, at least for this kind of game.

Very nice! And I absolutely love the extras on page 2!! Give those to the players and let them keep track of the use.

Thanks!

Swap the armor class and saving throw "columns" so the saving throws line up horizontally with the ability scores that affect them.

Love the idea for the torch and lantern cards. I have always struggled to make them be a part of the game in a way that mattered beyond you can't carry a shield.

Agreed. They are nice cards and I like the use of them.

koboldstyle, if you're feeling creative, why not make a card for arrows. That way a player can cross them off as they are used. (When my sister plays, for some reason she likes to track her arrow count even if I don't tell her she needs to. She keeps track of which arrows she can retrieve and which get broken. We use a "50% of the missed shots break" house rule and she rolls for them.)

Beautiful work, and much appreciated. I also second Marv's suggestion for an arrow-tracking card, if possible, please. :)

To show you my appreciation, I'll even throw you a couple free rpg pdfs of my own rpgs/supplements if you want (Atomic Highway, which was nominated for the Best Rules ENnie and an Indie RPG award last year, Irradiated Freaks the mutie supplement for same, and ION Guard for the ICONS rpg). Just pop me an e-mail to colin@radioactiveapedesigns.com and I'll fix you up.

@koboldstyle: I love the sheets and their design! It's great work. Say, will you do revised sheets for each class once the DCC RPG is out? And more resource cards would also be greatly appreciated! :)

Torch- and Lantern-cards. Very funny, but questionless usefully.

The handdrawn character sheet is superb!

Maybe also an ammunition sheet?

The BETA version of the character sheet can by found in the quickstart guide, or the back of the BETA.

But it's not going to be the official version, which I believe is being updated a bit.

Thanks. Very attractive sheet! But I was looking sheets in that format for each class with info for the specific class e.g. cleric spells, racial abilities, etc.

We're out of luck in that regard, unfortunately. There are various class-specific sheets around for DCC, but nothing that looks like this one.

You could just write any applicable racial abilities on the back. I've always thought spellcasters need a little bound journal prop to keep their spells written down in, to keep from having to flip through the book at the table.

That pic you see upthread is only page 1 of 2 in the pdf; the second sheet already has a box for race/class abilities to be written in. We're just lamenting the fact that fully class-specific sheets with those details already added weren't done in that style. A minor quibble at best. :)
