Pre-generated Characters vs. Custom Characters

I would imagine that is question is more for the Keepers than the Players; so when you run your players through an Age of Cthulu adventure, do you use the pre-gen characters or opt for custom characters?

Are you folding AoC adventures into your ongoing campaigns, or are you using them as one-shot adventures?

I would only use pre-gens at a con or if the game was very last minute with a time limit. Part of the fun for players is the creation of a memorable character.

I often use pregen characters the first time I run my players through a particular game system because it removes some of the prep time for them and helps them figure out the game a little faster. After we get an adventure or two under our belt then I switch to characters of their own design.

I find that creating characters when starting a new game system helps eveyone. Players and GM's get a better grip on the rules and game mechanics when things are being discussed during the character creation process in my opinion.

It can, but often this is influenced by how often we get our group together. If we are playing frequently no one minds taking a chunk of time to create characters, but when we have a hard time getting together regularly it's not time I like to spend.

Certainly, creating characters together gives players a much better feel for the game mechaics.
