I played Greyhawk and Blackmoor as a kid and after a hiatus of many years have gotten back into gaming with Living Greyhawk. I really liked the idea of a campaign which was global and ongoing in scope which you could either move to another area or drop out for an extended time and pick it back up again.

Has any consideration been given to making Blackmoor a living campaign. As it is now I suspect Blackmoor just holds interest for the 1st edition gamers who bought Judged Guild products. There is probably a reason(s) why this is not feasable, but I think that this would greatly broaden the appeal of the Blackmoor setting.

What's a "living campaign"?

Living campaigns are organized, nationwide campaigns where you create a PC and take it with you from event to event. The events are normally held at conventions and various gaming stores, although some campaigns do allow for home play.

Examples include the RPGA's successful Living Greyhawk, plus Living Force (Star Wars) and Living Death (Ravenloft/Red Death). I believe there's also one based on the Kingdoms of Kalamar, and WizKids/FanPro launched one for Shadowrun earlier this year. (I have a PC in the RPGA's not-as-successful Green Regent campaign, set in the Forgotten Realms.)

That said, as Stacey indicated, there might not be enough of a fan base (yet) to get such a thing rolling, but considering the number of people who love the world of Greyhawk (based on Living Greyhawk's success), anything's possible.

I am Dustin Clingman from Zeitgeist Games. We produce the Blackmoor line and are definitely in the works for planning a living campaign.

One of our goals of the newly released book was to establish a solid view into the history of Blackmoor, but also to make a connection with current gamers. Back in the First Fantasy days, Blackmoor had no pantheon, in fact, they specifically steered away from such a thing because of the political climate surrounding "Satan's Favorite Game". Current campaigns almost require a deity pantheon. Dave dug out all the notes and distilled them down to identifying which "diety like" things had happened in the past and we went from there. For this reason and others, I think that Blackmoor will strongly appeal to the current and old time D&D gamer.

Also, I would be happy to answer any questions you guys might have about Blackmoor.

I do have a couple of proposals on my desk for an Anthology for Blackmoor. We are going to take a serious look at doing such work in the very near future. There is also a campaign coming up for Hasbro's new Eberron setting in addition to what is listed.

It is great to here that there is a Blackmoor living campaign in the hopper. Will this be RPGA? Almost all are, but there was this one "Living Jewel" that last I heard was not working out too well.

Hi Stacey,

Its unlikely that a Living Blackmoor campaign would be in the RPGA. While Blackmoor is a licensed product, there aren't any more slots available. I plan to ask, but don't expect it as an option.

That being said, we already have the infrastructure in place to oversee the campaign outside of the RPGA. We are working with alot of former high level RPGA folks to help organize and run the campaign ourselves. We also have an advisory board who helps us make decisions regarding the campaign. I think we will be in very good shape to run this event outside if needed.
