Cinematic Chases

Cinematic chases are a staple of high adventure stories.

Inspired by Spirit of the Century, here's how I handle chases in ERP.

The lead character decides the difficulty for the round; 1D4 - 2D12.

Make a roll for for each character versus the difficulty number. For each character that fails, the margin of failure is the base amount of potential harm that must be mitigated with either Resilience (fatigue) or Toughness (injury).

If the lead character beats the challenge, add the difference to potential harm for everyone chasing who fails the vs check this round.

If the lead character fails and the chaser beats the challenge, add the difference of the chaser's winning roll over difficulty to the potential harm that the lead character must mitigate; Resilience or Toughness.

A chase is over when the lead character or those making chase reach 0 Resilience or Toughness.

Next up: Mounted Combat

Thanks, GnomeBoy! It worked exceptionally well last night. I love how open the system feels.
