I always thought that this had to be the deadliest prelude to an adventure ever written. How many tournament teams died on the approach? It's like the DCC version of K2.

As a backup judge that year, I remember reading this and thinking, "Oh my god! These players may not make it past the first 30 minutes!" Awesomely challenging sequence.
