Amusing Character Concepts

Post by Oaksoul Elite »

So, I was discussing DragonMech with a friend, and he came up with an amusing idea, so I figured I'd share. I mentioned an item described in The Last City, one of several steampunk monk items. A pair of gloves with built-in flint and tinder, so they light on fire when you smash your knuckles together. Bonus points for awesomeness, but I'd always lamented that the battles would always have to end with the hilarious (not awesome) sight of the monk trying to put the fire out. But my friend gave me a different perspective, and now the idea is awesome! Imagine an old-fashioned cowboy (perfect for the Wild Wild West aspect of DMech), with two gun holsters. Except they're not gun holsters. They're special canteens. They have flip tops for ease of opening and a wide mouth, and yet they're water tight even as the monk backflips around the battlefield. At the end of battle, he "holsters" his fists, extinguishing the flame. All of a sudden, the image isn't lame - it's bada$s! So I'm really glad I spoke to my friend.

Anyone else have off-the-wall, out-there, or just really neat ideas they'd like to share? Or their own instances of drastically revising their opinion of a build? I'm certainly interested in playing such a steampunk monk now.
I am Omnirahk, half-Rahkshi ("Omni") of the WotC forums. I consider "Psionics in DragonMech" (see my website) my greatest contribution to anything d20 so far. At least, it's my most successful topic.
