weapon crew requirement question

Post by Raptor »

Does a pilot with the mechwalker or mechidextrous feat count as one of the members of the crew of weapons he is firing? Just wanted some clarification on how weapon crews are suposed to work, like how many people it takes to fire a set of linked single-crew weapons.

i would say yes. A pilot may act as a crew for a weapon so long as he CAN crew the weapon. if he's busy piloting the mech, or the controls for said weapon are not located in the cockpit, that's another problem.

i would look at it this way...

you need a certain number of crew to opperate a weapon, and this includes various jobs; aiming, firing (not nessesarily the same task) loading

the pilot can to anything involved with the operation of the weapon that does not require him to leave the pilot chair

this does beg the question of how a pilot of a single crew mech reloads a steamgun attatched to his mech... (remote control? automators?)

taking a powder cannon from RL as an example, you have a couple of steps to follow

load the powder, load the shot, add wadding to keep the shot in place, prime the cannon, aim, fire, clean/douse, repeat

a pilot could aim and fire (by remote?) the cannon but would need physical access to the cannon to load, prime, or clean it. in a modern artillery piece, everything but aiming and pressing the fire button is automated (and even aiming gets some automated help)
