math errors in Warrior Strategy Guide

Post by DMR17 »

I was looking the the PDF preview of the feats chapter on your website,
and this looks like a really cool book. However, I did notice a minor math
error in "super important" table 5-1.

Sorry if this has already been pointed out - I did search the forums, but didn't
find anything about this posted previously.

Here's the problem: for the +6/+1 row, it appear that you calculate thet hit
probability by simply adding the probabilities for +6 (60%) and +1(35%) to
get 95% (this is for the AC 15 column, just for example). But this is not
the correct way to calculate this probability. There area actually 4 possible
outcomes: both attacks can miss, attack 1 can hit, attack2 can hit, or BOTH
attack 1 and attack 2 can hit. Here's the math:

Prob attack 1 hits: 0.60
Prob attack 2 hits: 0.35
Prob BOTH attaches hit = (0.60)*(0.35)=0.21
Prob EITHER attack hits = 0.60 + 0.35 - 0.21 = 0.74

I don't mean to nit-pick, but this has a big impact on all the higher level numbers
in the table. If you get a chance to correct this in a future printing, I think it would
greatly improve the product.

You're not the first to notice this (and a few other problems):

Doing a book like that is a recipe for trouble. Don't worry, we'll fine tune this and future strategy guides until we get it right...
