I just told my little girl a bed time story based off of B3

The Palace of the Silver Princess.

She wanted something more after I read her a chapter of The Road to Oz and I'm so tired I couldn't think of anything.

All of a sudden the old T.S.R. module B3 popped into my head. It was so much fun. I glossed over it in about seven minutes and it had six noble adventures: three warriors, a preacher, a scholar, and a reformed pick pocket who was so quite he could walk over our front lawn with all the dead leaves and not be heard!

I've never done anything quit like this before and needed to tell someone who would know the reference.

She loved it and really liked when I gave the happy ending of the Silver Princess and the Dragonknight getting married. The white dragon was a great hit especially when I told her how his breath really kept the wedding punch cool. :D

Thanks GnomeBoy.

It was fun. I will definitely keep a few other beloved ol' modules in my head the next time I simply can't come up with something original in the future!

Tomb of Horrors is not appropriate.

I don't know. The story seems apocryphal to me. . . .

No settling down after the Tomb Of Horrors for me...

I jumped into the Sphere of Annihilation.

Twice.

Hehe, that made me smile... sadly I am to young to have actually played Tomb of Horrors ( a mere 31...) but I get the impression it's almost as dangerous as a DCC funnel :P

I've DMed the module twice.

The first time with a really good old friend back in the mid-80s. Bryan is still the best strategist I've even DMed for. He lost two PCs prior to getting to the end room (I wish I could remember how and where they died). After me reading the description of the room and showing him the illustration, he decided to let evil lie and pulled out. Wisest player ever!

My second attempt to run the game was with my buddy Ragnar1965 about three or four years ago. I pestered him into it. He was afraid of the thing but really wanted to try his hand with high level adventures. The adventure was over within forty-five minutes. He lost the twelve NPCs we rolled up so fast it was funny. The last of the bunch all died in a sphere of annihilation. At that point, we went back to his first and second level PCs and tackled the Crucible of Freya by Necromancer Games using C&C rules.

This module is really for two kinds of players. Those that think they are far better than they really are and need to be shown they aren't 'all that' and those who have the maturity to try the ultimate challenge. The first group should not use their own characters for they will all die horribly and any lesson learned will be lost in the frustration and utter lack of enjoyment as their beloved PCs die. The second group should use their characters. Most will still die, but it will be a truly memorable game!

I sort of envisioned some of DCC being quite like that.... I do get the impression it is not so deadly at higher levels, but I really don't know.

Just out of interest how deadly is that last room? Maybe I will run it one day (even covert it to DCC) as a clear and unequivocal challenge, where people know they must be awesome or die!

A DM can take out multiple high level players each round in the finale.

There is precious little the players can do to harm the villain.

Total party kills are quite common for those who unveil the secret end room.

Lol, well the rest of the adventure sounds like fun, even if it is horriffic. :) Pitty it ends with "and everyone dies" :)

Which brings the discussion full circle. This is not a module I'd convert to a bedtime story!
