These spammers are vile and evil.
Now they are actually posting pictures to their posts and using names that have nothing to do with porn, i.e. U.S. Navy Uniform History.
Tell me about it

Well since I have moderatorship I have been fighting with the pr0n left and right.
frankly it seems like it is winning, massive cleaning twice today
so yes I open each post so I can delete it, only place to do so.
so yes I am noticing it is the same 4 or so sets of pics
I want to ban the posters too

I would really suggest changing the registration process for the boards, so that users must be manually approved.
It's more of a hassle initially for everyone involved, unfortunately, but if it eliminates these ludicrous spam postings, it's worth it.

I've also seen some boards ask the person registering to answer a random question...that helps avoid spam bots.

It's sadly a limitation of the current board format/version... Upgrading would be a great idea when time/resources collide properly, I'm sure... I also moderate these boards, and some days find myself deleting 25+ posts just to keep these forums PG-13...
We are working within the confines of the current system as best we can to eliminate/reduce the amount of spam (especially pornographic spam). Please be patient with us.

Is there any means you could use to ban certain user names?
Like, say, anything that has "Horny" in it?

Yes, we can, and most iterations of For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge are already banned, as are many other words (like tramadol, viagra, etc.).
I usually ban them as they come up, but some people might actually use "Horny" in a legit username...guy I know goes by "Horny_Goatweed" on a board, and he's not a spammer.
It's a balancing act between inoculating the board against spammers and pre-emptively ban-hammering legit people.
So of 85 new posts 84 were porn spam

On the plus side, there is an option to block Images in posts now, so I activated that since I surf the site while I am at work!
I can actually feel safe leaving the Etherscope forums! Yay me!
