I agree. % based checks are silly in a d20 game.
This is another opportunity to see more variable dice vs. DC like the 2nd Action Die.
I really, really, like variable dice vs. a fixed DC.

Demi-human classes...
Since your Race is determined by your Occupation, and your Class is picked upon reaching 1st level. I find it odd that a dwarf can choose to be a dwarf Warrior or dwarf Dwarf. That's confusing. I'm thinking the racial classes should have a specific name: These are my suggestions: Dwarf Fighter (beca...

Action Dice?! Brilliant...
I haven't been able to catch a playtest, so this is my first time seeing the rules... I think the variable Action Die is a brilliant concept, and it totally justifies the use of the "funky" dice. It's one of those slap my self in the face, "why didn't I think of that!" kind of th...

Critical Hit Chart, first thoughts...
I haven't played it yet, so I'll let my final thoughts be after a few rounds of combat. But these are my initial thoughts: Likes: I like that they're "typed". Table I, Table II, etc. So when it comes to homebrew, we can say they're Crit Table III, or whatever. I'm wondering if the wording ...

Re: DCC Character Sheet?
"Race as class" doesn't mean you can't also create classes that are configurations of different class/race rules. It doesn't mean every elf is the same. It just means the basic rules are a heck of a lot easier to learn for new folks, and the advanced players can continue to add complexity...

Re: Selling DCC to my group
If you're wanting to really test the game, maybe turn the knobs up to 11 and let them powergame it, and see where it breaks, and perhaps that will appeal to the need for oodles of power... Start them off at level 8 or something and test that end of the game, and if they like it, maybe they'll be up...

...What actually happens is up to the DM, as always... I think this is where the root of the problem lives. Unfortunately, as my experience with the RPGA and my own home-games for the past decade has proven, what "actually happens" isn't "always" up to the DM. It's what I was us...

Re: DCC Character Sheet?
Although I'm totally cool with the Class as Race rules, I don't think it would be too hard to separate the two. OD&D with its supplements did it pretty (fairly) well. If you pick up a copy of any Oe or Basic version and compare it to Advanced, you can see how they did it. Basically nerf them in ...

Selling DCC to my group
I have a really-REALLY mixed group. Average age is late 20s-early 30s. Some experiences go back to 2e, some of their first games were 3x and even 4e. I've gotten them to play a couple one-shots for various games. They showed NO (none) interest in OSR. A little interest in Dragon Age & Gamma Worl...

Re: Warriors and MDoA's
It sounds pretty clear there will be guidelines in the rulebook. No instant kills, etc. It'll probably assume that every GM is unique, and what is reasonable to one will not necessarily fly with another. Keeping it Fun and Fast is key. I don't want warriors referring to a chart or pile of cards ever...

Re: Expanded boards a great idea
Joe, you probably want to start a new sub-forum (or whatever they're called) for gamers seeking gamers, or open call for players kind of thing for this Beta. I know I'll need a few more players for my group. Some of them will not want to play an "old-school" game, unfortunately. I'm not su...

re: spells per page.
I'm wondering if they "have" to take up a whole page, or if they can take HALF a page, or a 1/4. Or maybe formatted to be printed on 4x6 index cards... (OH NO CARDS!)
I plan to be fully involved in the BETA of this game. I can't express my excitement with words!

BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER!!! (Well, my birthday will be the next day... but still!) So, I'm a player at our local D&D Meetup (gameday) at a local FLGS. I was wondering if I could demo the game at the next meet-up. Since the next game will be way after Free RPG Day, and assuming I get a copy of ...

Re: Professions and Races
Have any of you looked at the Dragon Age RPG (by Green Ronin?) Not to plug it or anything, but I've been in the same boat as most of you, i.e. I've gotten tired of D&D (3x & 4e) and have looked at several OSR games and have been in search of something with modern innovations but with the fla...
