Re: So I caved and bought the LE DCC RPG book.
The news reports had my mom a little concerned and one night she asked a bunch of questions about it after a big special was on TV. I convinced her to try it out firsthand and she rolled up a thief with 1 hp. I tried to get her to re-roll it but she wouldn't listen. The game then started with her th...

Re: New DCC RPG Kickstarter - Craft of Corpse Born
I really think you need to give us a lot more info/teasers on this. Right now I see little reason for people to support the kickstarter as there is so little information on the product and you are an unknown commodity as a writer. If you can get people excited or interested they will help promote it...

Re: Halfling Lucky Charms
I don't even care about balance. If I have to add the halfling luck modifier to all those rolls it starts to get cumbersome and annoying.

Yeah I think you are crazy . That's probably just there in case the halfling spends more than one point, thus changing the modifier.
If you are right that really changes things .

Re: Identifying magic item properties
I find rolling 2d4 etc. annoying so I just add another dice size usually. Thus a sword +1 becomes 1d10 instead of 1d8 or whatever. The players seem to enjoy the larger dice and feels like more of an upgrade than a simple +1. I then to try to jazz it up with other details and minor powers to make it ...

Re: Initiative
My rule: 1. On the first round of combat roll d20, individual initiative + bonuses/penalties. 2. On all following rounds you roll straight d6 for each side . You must declare you are casting a spell before initiative begins. I also don't play with "free whacks", dividing movement and other...

Re: Crawl! New Class Challenge: RANGER!
Am I the only one that thinks Rangers being forced into the archer or two-weapon fighter categories just plain sucks, and always has? It has never felt attached to the class concept in general to me, especially since their affinity with two-weapon fighting didn't even exist prior to 2nd edition. I ...

Re: Birth Auger at +0
Regardless of the Birth Auger, it is entirely conceivable that Al the warrior rolls 8, 4, 9 (not bad!) whereas Bob the warrior rolls 3, 6, 2 (ouch!). The problem is it might be Bob who has the -1 hp per level birth augur... Some players may like the challenge but I know many would be irritated his ...

Re: Creature Catalog
Make the book that appeals to you. You seem to have a certain style and need to remain true to it in my opinion, even if I don't prefer that style. If I were to make a creature catalog my stat blocks would be even shorter than the ones in the DCC book, a far cry from what you made. The reality is yo...

Really wanted to see what someone could do with the Psionicist. Not a huge fan of the class but it's never been done well in my opinion. Would love to see someone take a stab at it anyway.

And I thought the DCC monster stat blocks were too big    . I like to run fast paced games and that is ...

Re: Patrons supplement Kickstarter live!
I am still trying to decide what funding level to jump in at. Some questions: 1. Does the base book come with magic items or only the $50 pledge? 2. Can we get an example of a magic item? Will they be basic items like in D&D, more complex like artifacts or something closer to what we have seen i...

Re: Race separate from Class
I always like the idea that humans just advance quicker. It's easier to do this in D&D with either XP bonuses or lower XP requirements per level. It's a bit more difficult in this game but you could still do it if you wanted. A simple +1 XP per session for humans (I prefer giving humans a bonus ...

Re: Alternate Occupations - New Product
Ok I just checked it out and it's definitely worth buying in my opinion. For $2.00 you can't go wrong. First off, I love lists that go 1-200, the more entries the better in my opinion. I hope this isn't giving away anything but to test it out I rolled a 6 (meaning I add +100 to my percentile roll) a...

Re: Alternate Occupations - New Product
Going to go buy this now. Love RPG supplements like this (easy to insert in to a campaign, great quality but not overdone with expensive art and production values driving up the price). The reality is I rarely use the stuff I buy but it is nice inspiration for me and sometimes I find a gem that I wi...

Re: Crits and fumbles are too frequent.
I'm guessing you could achieve the same result by subtracting the character's level from the fumble roll. This is a nice idea and would mean high level characters recover from fumbles more often. I also always forget to apply luck modifiers to my crits and fumbles so this would help hammer it in to...

Re: Crits and fumbles are too frequent.
Consider that as characters level they get more actions per round. Since fumbles occur 5% of the time per roll, this actually means high level characters fumble more often per 10 seconds (round) than a low level character does. This never sits right with me but that's a whole other story. One thing ...

Re: Spell number limitation
If I understand the discussion correctly, I think that the key is that limiting spells known helps to simulate the whole experience/advancement part of a campaign. Suppose the most novice apprentice knew every spell in the book. When he adventures, hasn't he lost some of the fun because he can't ge...

Re: Wandering monsters
I should add that I don't always do this but when possible I try to pre-generate a bunch of encounters before hand. Before doing so I will often create thematic tables for the game that I then roll on, with the possibility for unexpected results, dynamic encounters and DM specials built in. A goblin...
