Re: Classic Modules
I would allow players to use their Agility as their armour class when unarmoured, but I would give armour a damage soak to balance (maybe -1 damage for every two points of AC over 10). At first, I wasn't sure of the XP rules myself (counting hordes of points makes you feel rich, whether XP or GP). I...

Re: Classic Modules
I don't have the inside story, but a Mighty Deeds progression of d3, d4, d5, d6, d7, d8, d10, d12, d14, d16 seems logical to me. How many monsters are in the book? Is it a much bigger selection than the Beta, and are they all unique twists on the classics (like we saw in the Beta with the wraslin' l...

Re: Classic Modules
Just shooting an idea out there... Sounds like you should write it for a CRAWL! article instead! I have to say, "house rules" from the get-go of the release are not my boat (especially from the game designer, as I'd assume the game would be as the designer intended it when released). Reme...

Hey fjw, where did you hear about that last rule (aka reroll a stat every level)? I wrote a similar article on my blog a while back (Swords of Minaria)?

Online Release Party
Hey, would anyone be interested in an online release party/gaming session the day after the PDF goes out? We could get a game going over Skype or Hangouts and try out the new game or just talk shop.

Re: Classic Modules
I hope wizardly corruption hasn't been completely trivialized - I liked the concept of magic being a (sometimes difficult) choice. Wizards should be mutated monstrosities by 10th level, in my opinion. On the original topic, I suspect the HackMaster versions of AD&D modules would be a good fit fo...

Zocchi Dice Buyer's Guide
With DCC just around the corner, it seems like a good time to pick up any last minute Zocchi dice for those slacker's that haven't yet got around to it (i.e. me). So what are the best deals out there for these strangely shaped polyhedrals? And what is the best way to ink in precision dice? I've only...

Re: DCC preorder : international shipping ?
Joe's a great guy, but I'm pretty sure the $16 dollars difference with shipping is basically the margin of profit Goodman Games makes on these books. It is kind of sad that they had to eat that cost, from a indie-publishing perspective.

Re: Classic Modules
Judging from the latest spell preview, corruption has been toned back quite a bit from the beta. Miscasting a "light" spell can no longer turn you into a newt, and fumbles have to share space with non-permanent misfire results. Miscasts are also tied to the specific spell, it would seem (a...

Re: paper quality
I have a decade of industry experience in print, and I fully endorse those print specs! 70lb is definitely a nice, solid text stock, and uncoated feels nice to the touch (and allows scribbling notes and house rules in the columns!). Smythe sewn binding is also top notch. A book this large with just ...

Re: Escape from the Pit
The civilization that has banded together in the Pit is faced with extreme poverty and hardship, yet Exile is a place of tremendous potential resources as well. Caves that are less well off might only have access to stone weapons (-1 damage and breaks on a minimum roll) and leather armour, while oth...

Re: Escape from the Pit
That's a good question! I will be thinking about that shortly, but my tendency is to stay as close to vanilla (rules-as-written) as possible. I think the DCC setup is already ideal (especially the funnel, which perfectly represents the average group of poor sods thrown into the Pit, as well as their...

Escape from the Pit
With the imminent release of DCC, I find myself returning to my perennial project of converting the old, classic Macintosh computer game "Exile: Escape from the Pit" to a tabletop game world. I think DCC has a suitable amount of weird horror to fit this setting, but there are some challeng...

Re: Opposed check for surprise? Just initiative?
I've never felt the need for any consistency in these things, and I am not a big fan of modifiers. The way I ran things with OD&D, I would describe the situation, listen to the player's solution, take a look at their character sheet (for stats and equipment) and ask them to roll a funny-shaped d...

I'm pretty intrigued about the secret message encoded into the artwork. Do you have to hold it upside down? Play it backwards? Does it tell us to commit crimes or use black magic?

Swarms
I have been thinking of a standard way to handle swarms of monsters and I came up with this basic template. I see this as covering all swarm-like monsters, including carnivorous bats, rats, insects, colonies of mold, slime, vines, pirhannas etc. The swarm would act a single monster that occupies an ...

Re: "Classes" of Monsters
It sounds a little too uniform for my liking, but I will definitely check out what you end up with. If you need ideas, James Raggi put out an excellent monster creation booklet through Goodman Games. I don't know yet, but I doubt I will do anything radical with monsters. I like a good mix of 1 in 6 ...

Wow, sounds amazing Joe!
Even with one spell every 1-2 pages, that seems like a lot of spells in the book.

Re: What adventures will be available when core book release
I think the book should include the adventures. It gives new players that weren't lucky enough to score the Free RPG day adventures a chance to experience them and, more importantly, it gives newcomers to the DCC RPG a real taste of what a DCC adventure should be like, even if they never run it and ...
