I second Dieter's opinion. If you're looking for some wild mech concepts, then you might like Mech Manual better. But if you want a book with a lot of character "crunch" (feats, steam powers, PrCs) and great PC-development options, then Steam Warriors is for you. And yes, it has the writeu...

Steamborgs remind me of bards, in that you can do a lot with the skill choices and, yes, the intrinsic steam powers to go in a variety of directions with your character, but at lower levels, their abilities don't shines so brightly as those of other classes. (But I think they're the coolest class, t...

I agree something like that would be great -- I was a HUGE Captain Harlock fan 20 years ago -- but the DCCs (like most of the d20-based RPG products) out there have to follow the SRD/Open Game Licence in order to use WotC's rules. And at this point, the d20 Future content isn't publicly available. T...

I expect to be there, although something could take priority! My wife and I are in the middle of adopting a child from China, and based on our current guess about when we'll be traveling, Gen Con -- wouldn't you know it? -- falls right in the middle of that window! (At least I'll soon have an excuse...

Ogrepuppy, You'll see more as things get laid out and more art is developed. I can tell you that it's humongous! Lots of surprises, traps, a few cleverly placed shortcuts (to Pain and Death!), and yes, by Odin, there's even a story that connects the whole thing! For details beyond that, I re...

I won't be able to make that, unfortunately -- partly because I'll be busy the following weekend running a DCC at ConnCon in Stamford, CT. (Prereg for that should start in a couple of weeks.)

Lord Nat, Thanks for the question. The latest release, Almanac of the Endless Traders , covered a lot of fascinating, still-to-be-explored areas of Highpoint, and we hope it'll encourage GMs to create adventures in some of those regions and flesh them out even more. Between it and the other setting ...

They're in the Elven Mechs chapter of Mech Manual.

I'm running my group through Halls of the Minotaur now (placing it in the DragonMech setting), and they had the same questions about 0-level characters, i.e., how exactly does this work? I explained things pretty much the same way that Harley has. The simplest thing to say is that the XP table in th...

I ran "Triple Cross" from The Great Metropolis on Friday morning, and that went over really well. The players had a lot of fun, even though two of the PCs came close to death. (They posed as drug dealers, and only a great Bluff check kept them from being disemboweled by the cult of the Mas...

Jamat, To answer your second question first, yes, your character does have a maximum number of skill ranks per level. See Table 7-2: Character-Level Dependent Abilities. Regarding the Fighting Technique skills, you need to make a roll against the DC of the manoevre you're attempting from that fighti...

Its not that I find Etherscope lacking, in fact I think it has to be one of the best settings out there currently. Jamat, You (like any other GM) are free to create any "house rules" you want. If you and your players decide not to use Attacks of Opportunity, that's totally up to you. Personally, I think that they make sense from a combat standpoint. For instance, if you're standing right next to an ene...

Jamat, Delighted you liked Upload: Etherpunk . As for the advanced classes, no, you can't be a 1st-level character with an advanced class. The prerequisites require a certain number of skill ranks, and you can't get those skill ranks without one or (usually) more levels in one of the standard classe...
