Re: GM Screen

I was going to work on one (I own the savage worlds customizable screen as well), but after reading harley's tips & tricks post, I think I'm going to play without a screen. There is an adversarial aspect to the DM screen that I've long wanted to try to do away with, and I think now is my chance ...

Re: Spells, and what to do with them.... [long]

The spell system is probably my favorite thing about the game. That being said, I'd like the core book to be thin as well. One thing I'm not sure about is that I noticed all the tables are called out as product identity in the OGL of the Beta rules. Does that mean all the spells are technically not ...

If nothing else, I'm sure it will be addressed in the adventure starter pack.

Re: Monster XP

You may want to check out Microlite20 for super-simple XP rules. If you find they make leveling too fast, adjust accordingly. http://www.microlite20.net/node/3 Personally, I don't count XP, I just award levels based on completed adventures, or sometimes even just sessions played, so it's a non-issue...

Re: Turn Unholy (pp 22-24)

The first thing that comes to mind is to have PCs randomly roll alignment in order to prevent them from trying to exploit the differences that are driven by alignment. I like the differences, but I want to take away the opportunity to munchkinize. 1 = Chaotic 2-5 = Neutral 6 = Lawful Just an idea th...

Re: DCC Character Sheet?

Yeah, I will miss playing my dwarven fighter/thief and it will be a hurddle for convincing some players to defect to this game (my brother is going to miss the gnome, he loves playing gnomes). I've never understood why players never seem to be happy with making a fighter, wizard, or whatever, writi...

Re: Selling DCC to my group

Just tell them you want to test a new game that you think looks cool. No need to go any further than that. The game speaks for itself, in my opinion. It doesn't matter how much you sell them on it beforehand, if they dislike it, then they dislike it. In my experience, you can't convince someone to l...

Re: The beta rules will be available...

Players in my Pathfinder game already use digest-sized printed spellbooks, which are quite handy. I think the DCC RPG spells would work even better in this format, using one page per spell. Some Pathfinder spells take a few lines, and some take up several pages, so formatting the doc can be a pain i...

Re: what game is most like the DCC RPG?

I know the original post is quite old, but I'd say Basic Fantasy RPG is the closest, although admittedly DCC RPG is way sexier. The best thing about DCC RPG is that I've been trying to get my group to play old school games for months, and we've played a few, but without ever really being able to get...

Re: what game is most like the DCC RPG?

...or a dwarf allways being a fighter... Interesting Side Note: Having just introduced my 11-year-old son to Holmes Basic last night, I'd been reading up on it a bit the day previous. Dwarves and Halflings are fighters, unless they opt to be thieves (!). Page 6, under --what else? -- the paragraph ...

I think I'm going to have another look at James Raggi's "The Grinding Gear" as well. It may be a good fit for grinding up some 0-level guys.

Re: Adventure! What kind will you run for DCC?

I will be adapting Pod-Caverns of the Sinister Shroom for DCC RPG and running it at Lake Geneva Games on Free RPG Day. For my home game, we will probably start out a new mini-campaign at level 0. It will likely be set somewhere in Paizo's Golarion setting, since it's pretty much a kitchen sink setti...

Re: When will the dice sets be available?

I ordered the pound of zocchi from gamestation, hoping to get some of the funny dice in there for my group, but alas, they were all standard dice. No biggie, since I wanted to start using precision dice anyways. So I bought a 12-pc set from my FLGS ($22 uninked!) which included the following: d3, d4...
