Re: Target?

Does anyone buy a D&D player's handbook (whatever the current edition or how essential it is) and just read it and attempt to play it without some form of sagely non-RPG-virgin to guide them? Well, no. But, well, two things: 1) Isn't that somewhat depressing/worrisome? 2) In the past year or so...

Re: Two weapon fighting and critical hits

I'd say "Oh well" in that case. That doesn't work though. The chart CLEARLY states that Agility of 11 or less CAN NOT CRIT. The rest give a variable die (d16 or d14) and states "Primary hand crits on attack result of exactly 20*; off hand cannot crit." So...what is it? Do you ne...

Re: Monsters & Encounters

I hope so--seems silly to require possession of (or at least in-depth knowledge of) another game to play this one. I'd also like to see a basic dungeon/setting information in the final product. Of course, I'd also like to see an "Judges Guide" come out eventually with even more patrons, mo...

Target?

So, I seen numerous references to "experienced Judges" and the like--is that the true target audience for this game? Experienced gamers/GM's, esp. those who have played/play 0eD&D? I ask because on the first read through, the writing seemed to make certain...assumptions about the audie...

Re: Chaotic clerics vs Paladins (pp24, 32)

Why would a level 5 Warrior been turnable, at all? The "Paladin" class from D&D (sacred warrior) doesn't seem to exist in this game, and if it does, it's the Cleric. Should they be the ones affected by turning, not the warrior?

Re: Percentage Thief Skills

Put me down for ditching the %--it's a dated system. Besides, newer players won't get/appreciate the homage. Stick with the fun D3's and D5's--use them instead. Secondly, can we collapse the thief skill list? Combine Sneak Silently and Hide in Shadows to a generic "stealth" roll? I'd like ...

Ok, I'm an idiot. I admit this, I acknowledge this. Where on the site can I download this? I don't see a link on the DCC RPG, the main page, the products page, or the on-line store? I'm sure I missed it and it's staring me in the face. Can someone let me know? Then, feel free to commence with the mo...

Re: Warriors and MDoA's

You really think a 1st level fighter with a spear with no str bonus should have a 17% chance off putting spear through the front rank mook and pinning the second rank mook to him. (33% for roll 3 on d3 times 50% chance to hit a fellow first level mook = 17%). After the first time that works all the...

Re: Warriors and MDoA's

Maybe I'm a freak, or far too lenient of a GM, but I don't see the need for ascending "DC" of the MDoA. The 3 or better works fine for me. I'd rather have the players dodging under the ogres legs and climbing on it's back than standing there and hitting it with a sword. I fear that if you ...

Re: When will the dice sets be available?

I had ordered my dice from them on Friday, and they arrived today. That was fast. Yeah, they're time has really increased. First set I ordered took a couple of days to ship out. Second set I ordered yesterday (a Sunday) and shipping this morning. Of course, I'm cheap, so I went with the cheapest, s...

Re: When will the dice sets be available?

Just so everyone knows, Gamestation.net has "Zocchi Pack" inked dice sets available. They're collections of D3's, D5's, D14's, D16's and D24's. You still need to get the D7's and D30's separately, but there you go. They might have always had these, but I just found them a little while ago ...

Re: Encounter Levels and Random Encounters

I was being facetious. But Joe has already said there were going to be no CR-like rules. My apologies, I didn't pick up on that. I'm not sure we need CR-like rules, necessarily. I'd be happy with something like the old D&D "dungeon level tables" that gave you some idea of what level v...

Re: Encounter Levels and Random Encounters

I suppose that if your target audience is expert DMs, then you can skip having some kind of encounter design rules. I'm not sure you can. From what I've gathered elsewhere on this board, one of the design philosophies is "unique monsters in each module." If that's the case, I know I'd wan...

Getting the word out?

So, I've been driving around to various stores trying to stock up on supplies for when the Beta Rules come out--it looks like gamestation.net is out of D30's, so I'm hoping SOME gaming store has them. Of course when I ask for D30's (or any other "odd" dice, since I want to have a couple of...

Re: Free RPG Day

I have a question on RPG day etiquette. Since my local gamin store isn't participating in the event, how rude would it be for me to shop, get the free module, by some other product and head out? I def. want to support the store that I will be going to (and therefore plan to buy at least one book and...

Re: Any Prerequisites?

From a DM perspective power gaming was never a problem in and of itself, Well, I disagree. I think power gaming is, in itself, a problem. Not "players using smart tactics and clever stratagems" to out think their foes, or using common gear and items in inventive ways power gaming. But, bu...

Cook, See if the store is showing up on the Free RPG Day retail locator: http://www.freerpgday.com/stores.htm If they are, they'll definitely have copies of the release. Not to game the system, but it wouldn't hurt to chat up your FLGS manager and sales staff so they let you have pick of the pile. ...
