Re: Dice...

Tell me you've never had to roll a d8 for a missing d4 before. I've never had to roll a d8 for a missing d4 before. I'd do it if I had to. d16 and d24 are just d8 or d12 + a coin flip/hi low/odd even/whatever. Even d30 is easily faked with a d10 and a d3. So I fail to see the point of the complaint...

Re: Dice...

Did people get all bent out of shape when Aces & Eights went with a transparent target, poker cards and chips? What about Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay and their ridiculous proprietary dice? A bit, yes. On various forums both took flak for the specialized equipment. However, both games provided all yo...

Re: Dice...

(sorry for the thread necromancy... I'm new here) It's a design feature. Why did OD&D decide to use those strange "polyhedral" dice instead of just six-siders? Using a smaller die type limits the number range more. They got away with this because OD&D birthed an industry and put these dice on the ma...

Re: "roll" weird die by turning pages in the DCC RPG?

I think that the primary problem may be one of cost. A $40 rulebook and $25 set of dice puts the price into the $65 range before even counting in the cost of the box itself. But that's what it's going to cost 99.9% of us anyway. Nobody in my local group has any of those funky dice (well, I have som...

Re: Scrap the XP table. One table to rule them all

I never play modules so I don't care. But YES, I agree, 1e/2e modules should be rated "For character around 100,000 experience points" instead of "for characters of 7th-9th level". In 1e/2e it was even stupider to use level because of multiclass characters. Frankly I never understood why xp wasn't ...

Re: Scrap the XP table. One table to rule them all

Count me among those that are fine with separate XP tables. Whether or not that adds to the unbalancing (which I also like) of classes I don't know. But having different rates of progression and parties of different levels makes for interesting times, IMO. I play 4e Encounters at the local gamestore...

Re: Level Cap

I'm a big fan of lower levels in D&D - in 30 years of playing we've only been above level 10 twice. It looks (from a reading of the DCC RPG Beta only) that levels are more powerful here and I'm guessing my personal play-style will see a ton of enjoyment out of levels 1-5 and I'm not all that interes...

Re: 3d6, in order

I've got no problem with 3d6 in order. Besides, rules for an RPG are merely suggestions. If it makes it more fun for your group to do it some other way - best not let something printed dissuade you from having an awesome time at the table. That would be criminal. I realize this isn't D&D, but the 1e...

DCC RPG - Play By Forums at RPG Geek

Although the Goodman Games forums here are the right place to discuss the DCC RPG, there has been some ratings and discussion (and funnel character creation) of the beta over on RPG Geek. http://rpggeek.com/rpgitem/100199/dungeon-crawl-classics-role-playing-game-beta-rule RPG Geek also has a Play By...
