Re: Target?

Designed for experienced judges--it says so on page 4. I think this approach should be toned down a bit. I don't want a What is Roleplaying section but I think the game could be learned by less experienced players.

I can't seem to see this mentioned anywhere, but like many things i might just have missed it.
You are correct. Page 11 under Stamina it notes the minimum of one hit point.

randomingly rolling spells?

I didn't see a chart for random starting spells for wizards. The spell list has 23 entries, so I suppose you could roll a d24 with 24 being a free pick. Or the spells could all just be shuffled together and the wizards picks four out at random to start building his grimoire.

Re: no magic items--shouldn't those be playtested?

I hope magic items are rare and wondrous in DCC. But several times the combat rules state that magic bonuses can be added due to magic items. I'd like to not have it assumed that magic items will simply add bonuses or that at the very least it will be rare.

Re: no magic items--shouldn't those be playtested?

One reason I'd like to see the ideas for magic items (even if no 5th level characters deserve one and heck, who says any PC can even survive to 5th level?) is that the game is so different. For example, I hate spell in a can items. A wand shouldn't be filled with fifty magic missiles like an eldritc...

Re: no magic items--shouldn't those be playtested?

Actually, I was going to post about magic items. Just like monsters every single magic item in DCCRPG should be unique. If you find a +1 longsword it should be ONLY magic weapon in the world that give a +1 attack bonus. Every other magic item needs to find some other way to be special. And thus the...

Re: what you really like at first glance

Cthulhu as Neutral is strange, if not wrong. I mean, Cthulhu has cultists by definition! I think it should be made Chaotic. Doesn't Chaosium (do they still exist) scream bloody murder if any RPG tries to use Cthulhu's name? Chaosium exists and is making a comeback. Cthulhu is open to anyone to use ...

It has a cartoon feel to it, but his work on page 6 is pretty great in my opinion.

no magic items--shouldn't those be playtested?

The playtest doc has no magic items, treasure, or XP rewards. Isn't testing rewards and leveling up somewhat important?

Re: what you really like at first glance

Cthulhu as a god for clerics is great.

Alignment and the struggle of the gods really matter is also great. I like the C-N-L only alignments.

Table 1-2: Luck Score--clarify roll 30

On Table 1-2: Luck Score a roll 30 changes speed. The chart notes that each +1 = +5' speed. To be crystal clear, that should be changed to each -1/+1 = -5'/+5'.

I realize this should be clear just from reading the surrounding text, but I think it would be a useful clarification to add.

what you really like at first glance

What I really like just by paging through the beta is the art, which really jumps out at me, and page 4. I realize that What is Roleplaying? is a staple of new RPGs but I like page 4 much more! I'd like to hear what jumps out immediately to other judges. Things you really want Joseph to keep, that h...

Re: Percentage Thief Skills

I would also like to see the % skills gone. Thieves should get bonus die to skill checks instead like the cast spell from scroll does. Also, the halfling bonus to sneak and hide should be dice not a straight modifier to match up with the thief. Maybe change the static bonuses to d6, d10, d14, d16, a...

Christmas comes early but not early enough

I'm a grown man with a job and responsibilities. Yet I feel like Christmas is two days away and Joseph won't let me have any presents early. :D I have been seeking a real swords & sorcery D&D experience for the last few years. I love Pathfinder but my players are using rules that cover 1,168 pages a...

Re: DCCRPG Blackmoor Dungeons Playtest at Gen Con 2011

I'll be at Gen Con and I'm very interested in this playtest. Friday or Saturday during the day (before 6 PM) would work best. I'd likely have two other people who would want to play as well.

Re: Darklore Campaign Primer pdf available?

Etherscope is released only under the OGL license, whereas DarkLore was released under the D20 System license. I believe that the D20 System license was revoked shortly after 4e being launched, and so we are no onger able to sell products released under the D20 License. Ben Okay, that makes more se...

Re: Darklore Campaign Primer pdf available?

Odd. I can still buy Etherscope as both a book and as a PDF and it is D20. In fact, I did just buy Etherscope which is what led me to DarkLore. What's the difference? Just curious.

Darklore Campaign Primer pdf available?

My question isn't directly related to Etherscope, but I don't know where else to ask. I'd very much like to buy the Darklore Campaign Primer but the pdf no longer seems to be available. Is there anywhere I can pick up a copy? I always liked the idea of D20 Modern fantasy but I completely missed Dark...
