Re: Regaining Luck

I'm still unsure about Luck (can work round it though it would be nice to know the intention of the rules): - Is the initial score rolled at PC generation a hard limit on Luck, or can you exceed that e.g. you rolled 13, burnt 2 points in adventure, get +3 at end of adventure, is your Luck now back t...

Re: Doom related advice,

My players didn't find the real spear; they've gone off to fight the Hound with the other one from the dodgy room (which they survived, barely). I didn't run the ambush as they came out of the Mound though. They will fight the Hound with the spear they have, probably kill it i.e. it turns into gas a...

Re: The Ulfheonar's Tomb + Curious Players = End of Campaign

I did assume that the opening was at the bottom of the wall. Players were very lucky, there were 4 of them in there when the trap sprung, and they all managed to get out (one by burning some Luck). Unfortunately they didn't find the real Spear, so have gone off to fight the Hound in its lair in the ...

Re: Quick question regarding healing ability points. . .

BTW, re Spellburn, some spells require it (I think one of the Patron Spells requires 10 points?). I assume this doesn't add to your casting result, it's just a pre-requisite, like spellburning to cast a lost spell?

You could, of course, add extra spellburn points if you wished to boost your chances.

Re: Thieves'/Halflings Luck and (again!) Mighty Deeds of Arm

Is that right? I was under the impression that, from what I recall from reading the book: several situations might lead to permanent luck loss all luck expended by non-thieves and non-halflings is permanent luck obtained at the end of an adventure is a permanent increase of the stat no rule says th...

Re: Spoilers:Sailors on the Starless Sea...anyone played it

the encounter is a hard one that can easily result in a tpk at least it did last night when I ran it :) Ouch. We had plenty of these in playtest, but I'm still bummed to read about it happening in home games. //H the party was down to seven warm bodies at that point but were a bit over confident as...

Yes, I think that's a good solution.

Re: Thieves'/Halflings Luck and (again!) Mighty Deeds of Arm

I've also assumed that initial rolled luck is the maximum luck attainable (other than receiving an enchantment that increases the maximum). I'm quite happy to believe that's the answer, although it does mean that Thieves get no benefit from +Luck awards at the end of a scenario. I was sure there mu...

Re: Thieves'/Halflings Luck and (again!) Mighty Deeds of Arm

Anyway, as to the original question about 30 Luck halflings, if you have such a thing in your game I'd argue you're breaking it on purpose and have only yourself to blame, heh. So what happens when Thieves/Halflings gain Luck? That's what I'm interested to know. Either they quickly go up to a maxim...

Re: Thieves'/Halflings Luck and (again!) Mighty Deeds of Arm

I believe the general assumption, created by two years of play testing, was that characters will be burning luck on a fairly regular basis (and not just thieves and halflings, neither). Luck rewards are there to keep characters in the game, and raise them back up to their original total, not get th...

Re: Thieves'/Halflings Luck and (again!) Mighty Deeds of Arm

I would never let a stat go above 18. Much like levels, with 10th representing a legendary hero, an 18 in a stat is pretty much the pinnacle of whatever your race's abilities are in that stat. (Also, I think it deserves a little discussion that the 3-18 bell curve scale for stats differs between ra...

Re: Thieves'/Halflings Luck and (again!) Mighty Deeds of Arm

The main oddness is due to the fact that Thieves/Halflings don't really lose Luck permanently, I assume everyone else will be burning it off at reasonably regular intervals. Even if you limit it to 18 (or some other value), if they get +Luck at end of adventure they are going to hit the maximum soon...

Thieves'/Halflings Luck and (again!) Mighty Deeds of Arms

A couple of things that occurred to me this morning: - Thieves and Halflings use Luck temporarily and regain 1/day. When Luck gains are given out at the end of an adventure this will increase their permanent Luck score. Is there a hard limit (18, or more?). After a few adventures are Thieves/Halflin...

Does that table have a modifier for attacking if blinded/unable to see? I'd count it as that if so.

Warrior (p42) under Critical Hits seems to have some text missing. It says that at 1st to 3rd level a warrior scores a critical hit on a natural roll of 19-20. The threat increases to 17-20 at 9th level. Apart from the missing information about levels 4-8, this doesn't really agree with the table on...

Re: Levelling Up

You guys are really going to level up during the adventure? Does it say to do that in the rulebook? It doesn't say either way AFAIK. This is a job for a pineal gland! p26 just says that characters level up when they reach the required XP. p360 says "When a character accrues enough XP to advance in ...

Levelling Up

When you accumulate 10 XP as a 0 level PC, is the intention that you level up immediately i.e. in the middle of the adventure, or do you wait until the end? Having just read Sailors on the Sunless Sea, I'm thinking that if the latter, 0 levels may not make it through!

1. On page 14: "His Specialization with the axe grants him +2 points to damage, and a +1 to Initiative in battle when using his one-handed combat axe." Does this mean that you don't get the harm bonus or initiative bonus from a weapon unless you have the Specialization in that weapon? If this is th...

Re: Spell questions

That is correct. Cantrips are "free form", but the minor effects should be based on the power source used (as decided by the caster). So there is no limit, because these spells are not memorized. Great. Yes, recharging an item can be done anytime with a simple cantrip. If done during combat it take...

Ok, a few of Cantrip/item questions: - Cantrips cost 1 pp each to cast. It seems from the book that they are created 'on the fly' i.e. there are no pre-created cantrips, as there are for spells - is that correct? If not, then is there a limit on how many are known as for spells? - The Cantrip to rec...

Re: Calculating Active Defence Pools (ADPs)

This is true, but it does also say (sorry, no book with me at the moment, so no reference), that the mastery points gained when a weapon is used are lost if the weapon is changed/dropped etc, to prevent people starting out with a +20 weapon at the start of combat and then switching to a different we...
