Re: Play experiences of wizards...

Good points :). I think I would like to see a way to experience more of the 2nd+ level spells that have been written... possibly just introduce them as scrolls, or allow them as one of ritual effects or the like. Yeah, I like that - spells you come across on adventures, but do not learn, could be ca...

Play experiences of wizards...

I'm wondering how wizards get on with the limited spell acquisition - and how Judges handle it; not in a given wizard, but acorss multiple. I don't think it's bad at all, but a 5th level wizard would likely know 6 1st level spells, 2 2nd level spell and 1 3rd level spell Plenty of variety in and off...

Re: Magic missile...

While I've loved DK's "when wizards coming to realise that 2 necessaraly isn't bigger than 1" from a rolplaying perspective, from a game perspective the game states "Higher-level spells are more powerful but harder to cast - and there are more concequences for failure" (Wizard, p...

Re: Magic missile...

Thanks for the thing to mull over guys. :) I think cjoepar makes some good points; Fireball clearly seems the better spell against multiple targets. And that's good. I still struggle with magic missile outshining lightning bolt. Our 5th level caster is doing between 18 and 66 damage to one target (a...

Re: Magic missile...

Hum, I'm not sure about the hirearchy; clearly there is a heirarchy in spells - a level three spell should, do more than a level one spell.... the only 'issue' arrises with multiplication and single targets; (1d4+2)*(1d4+CL) can swiftly be a lot... The notion of balance simply comes that later delay...

Re: Stomp the typo / Errata & FAQ

Hi,

Fireball's range is given as 100' or more, yet one of the options has it's base range as 50'... it's a minor issue, but one of those numbers should be changed to match up with the other :)

Magic missile...

Hi, briefly looking over the spell section (but just briefly), but I've noticed Magic missile seems aoften a better damage dealer than Burning Hands, lightning bolt (which is often single target... and even when not is not great damage, pluss involves a save) and often Fireball (although multiple ta...

Re: Death of Ratface and an abbreviated history of "the Band

Some questions on the band, because I'm quite a newby: 1) Are they simply pictoral creations, or are som/all of them characters from your games & playtests? 2) If they are real characters were there deaths representitive of actual deaths in playtesting etc. Because the Ratface-slipshot character...

Re: Some Wizard ideas; Variance.

I was using the forums as a thinking board really. I've been away from gamers for 6 months, so needed some external input to mould thoughts... but they are just thoughts, and I've had more since then - but I'm not looking at it as something that needs to be fixed... just something i'm enjoying tinke...

Throwing a question into the mix:

Do elves have the same spell check penalty as wizards? (with regards to armour)... I've heard conflicting reports.

Re: I just told my little girl a bed time story based off of

I sort of envisioned some of DCC being quite like that.... I do get the impression it is not so deadly at higher levels, but I really don't know. Just out of interest how deadly is that last room? Maybe I will run it one day (even covert it to DCC) as a clear and unequivocal challenge, where people ...

Hehe, that made me smile... sadly I am to young to have actually played Tomb of Horrors ( a mere 31...) but I get the impression it's almost as dangerous as a DCC funnel :P

Probably, it's just got more likely they will start exploring more of the world soon. But I would expect west of the Misty Mountains before south of the Brownlands. :)

Re: Good rule system for a Hobbit/LotR Campaign

I think I may be incorrect on one point. The release pace is slow, but Cubicle 7 is one release away from haveing released all they have so far anounced for the game. That is they announced a product line when the game first surfaced, and that line is one product (Rivendell) away from completion. I...

Re: Good rule system for a Hobbit/LotR Campaign

I also heartily endorce the one ring game - it is simply excellent. It's biggest downsides are the lack of a good index (rectified if you want to download an very excellent full index), slow rate of supplements (due to working with Tolkien estates, but what other books exist are very high quality; t...

Re: Spellburn baby, Yeah!

Good point. I do see my "campaign" to be quite Lankmar esk. with not necessarily explaining the passages of time from one adventure to the next... basically I would like to play DCC to simulate those bits of appendix N, and the non-connectedness would be a thing. However the entire idea is...

Spellburn baby, Yeah!

To long, don't read version: Changing spellburn from from a fixed bonus into a variable bonus keeps magic unpredictable, is mechanically suitable for DCC and is in the spirit of appendix N. Further limiting spellburn to 12 points (+1d24) still allows going nova, but requires luck and flair! Hi, Jam...
