Re: "Fixing" DCC RPG

The point of the game, however, is not "The Epic Adventures of The Wizards and Elves!!!(and their human shields, the Warrior, Thief and Dwarf)" the idea is, every class wants to feel important and get game opportunities to be powerful. Roleplaying bad things just makes the arcane spellcast...

Re: Alternate Spellburn Actions

I am glad that others see the magic/spellburn as I do. However, I see with with Bless spells and Halfing Luck as well --- spellcasters can get absolutely consequence-less high 20's-low 30's results without resorting to spellburn. I am toying with the idea of a "max bonus" by level. This wo...

Re: "Fixing" DCC RPG

Rather than increasing the cost of Spellburn, I am considering capping ALL bonuses to spell results from every source (spellburn bless, etc,) to 3x spell level. That means 1st level, your max casting bonus ourside of level and INT modifer is 2. At 2nd, it is +6, 3rd it is +9, 4th is is +12, and so o...

"Fixing" DCC RPG

There are imbalances which are partially a function of my mistakes, but take them for what they are worth. No matter how you slice it, there are some issues. 1. You cannot allow players to make characters the munchkiny way they have in the past. This is my biggest mistake. 4d6, take the highest 3 br...

New Patron for Consideration - Pater Tempus

Somewhat in the mold of The Three Fates...this is not done yet and I still have to work on the 2nd and 3rd spells. Pater Tempus In a place out of time, outside the domain of man and God, Pater Tempus upholds Law and ensures the steady flow of time on all worlds, all dimensions. Pater Tempus has thre...

Re: critical hits on dragons

I should clarify -- I know that some folks runs games right off the top of their head like they do on Nerd Poker. That's cool, and its rules lite and almost rules invisible. But I like to plan my games, incorporate the mandatory background stories, feature certain characters in certain game sessions...

Re: critical hits on dragons

With good bless spells and spellburn, a 3rd level wizard with a Sleep spell can immediately and in the first round put a Dragon to sleep. You need a 20-23 to put the dragon in a supernatural sleep, Game over. A Luck burn and a good roll means a Warrior slays the big bad, quick and easy. The rules ar...

Chicago/ Oak Park, Illinois - Looking to Add 1 or 2 Players

We have a stable group of 3, sometimes 4, and we are looking to add one or two players. We are 3rd level in a game, and you'd be joining the campaign in progress. Friendly group, we are all in our 40's heading towards 50. No experience necessary, shoot me an email to atlascott@gmail introducing your...

Saving Throws

With the existence of spell modifiers, bless spells and spell burn, a wizard can often and at little cost ensure that the save against their spell effect is 25, 27, or even higher.I have had third level wizards under the effect of a great bless spell cast by the cleric get results as high as 30. thi...

Re: Patron Problems- The Three Fates

Clarification: I am running the game and this is about one of my players. Standing back to back and coordinated eye-closing is an interesting idea for FUTURE spellcasting, but these characters have both rolled the result, and they choose not to kill one another, being twin sisters and all. So I need...

Patron Problems- The Three Fates

So I have twin Elves who share the Three Fates Patron. Each time they spellburn, they roll a d4 to see what happens. Both have rolled "4" meaning "You invoke dark Chaos magic for your spell to work and are corrupted. If you spellburn again before any agent of Fates, your life will sur...

Hi There, Gang.

Been doing this since age 12. 33 years. Whew. Been buying Goodman modules for D&D and picked this (DCCRPG) up 6 months ago by accident, converted an infant 1st Ed campaign to DCC. (After abandoning 3.0 and 3.5, and refusing to upgrade to 4.0 or 5). Love it. This will be the game I run in this ge...

Re: Spellburn baby, Yeah!

The upside to spellcasters is too great and the risk too low.

One 32+ roll on a spell turns a boss battle into a cake walk. These charts make that result substantially easier to attain, more often.

If a PC wants to do that, make him earn it. The variability of the spell check is variance enough.

Since Patrons are jealous of the power they share, I'd think that any attempt at more than one is asking for it.

I would not allow it.

The ability to level an entire city > a secret magic assassin.

Great game. But I hold these truths to be self evident.

Yeah, I know, and I probably will add spells. Everyone should.

But C5 > W5. So it needs some afixin...thats all.

The recipient of a critical hit does not get a saving throw to avoid the effects of the critical, do they? Or is this a special dragon power?

critical hits on dragons

So let's say my extremely foolish party of 3rd level characters desire to fight a large ancient dragon. By the grace of goodness, they get an initiative and a warrior strikes a critical and the critical says that the warrior does an additional 3 D 12 damage and the recipient of the blow dies in 1d3 ...
