New gamers are THE best

The party is in a village investigating why the flow of trade dried up and why no representatives were sent to the Allthing in the Fall. As they investigate, they slowly begin to unravel a deeper plot, yet cannot pinpoint who is on which side. But there is a mysterious stranger in town, holed up in ...

Re: DCC RPG campaign commencing tomorrow, Southern Maryland

The Funnel was done in two sessions, and was well received. A few players commented it was some of the most fun gaming in a good while. The current construct of the party is: Warrior spec'd as a Ranger Warrior spec'd as a Shield Maiden, Cult of the Waelkyrgga Utlagi (Thief) seeking protection since ...

Re: Spell burn to regain spells

I agree that it reads like it can be cast until failed ect again. That said the dang Wizards are running amok and should be slammed with a thick book at every available opportunity! My party wizard seems to roll 18-20 + her considerable bonus all the dang time. The DCC book is pretty thick and heft...

Re: weapons and damage

Originally, all weapons did d6 damage, no more, no less. To boot, does me hitting you in the face with a sword or an axe cause more damage? Variable damage is sort of silly, as the weapons are more of aesthetic choices than practical ones (using RAW). http://www.thearma.org/essays/TopMyths.htm Sword...

Re: Spell burn to regain spells

Yeah, I think the 'as if' part of that line is the important part -- it doesn't give them the spell back , they can just cast it as if they still had it. Wanna cast it yet again? Then you've got to spellburn again, too. That is not implied at all; as if meaning as if the spell were un-cast for the ...

How do we go about this then...25 sets required...we have quite a few. I will check with my group to see if they are up for an order. The price is perfect.

Re: burning luck

How would you let that affect thieves? At low levels, a simple 1d3 +1 makes sense, but at higher levels where they throw many sided dice it doesn't seem as effective. Or is this for only non-thieves. I like the concept of a "double the effect" or "triple the effect" rule, but th...

Re: The adventures seem cool, but how's the campaign?

Sorry to see the group dynamics play out how they did. Gamers. Holy crap, thanks for answering! Again, it was not a 'calling you out', but an honest desire to know how/why a mechanic, an integral one at that, fails, by perception or fact. I am getting ready to kick off a campaign, so I am posting al...

Wizard Spell Casting Roll

For those who play/ed DCC, how is/was the reaction to how a wizard casts spells, specifically making a check to cast successfully? Any issues or complaints?

Re: The adventures seem cool, but how's the campaign?

So far my experience has been that campaign play is possible, it just requires a shift of focus for the GM/Judge/Storyteller away from the search for inventive ways to slaughter; and to opt-out of the 'Ire of the Gods' rule. The hardest part is to never forget that the core rules support a fast and...

Re: No Demi-humans?

Or classic pulp sword & sorcery fiction like REH's. I have run DCC without any demi-humans in a Hyboria-like setting and I did not miss elves, dwarves etc at all. All very Conan-esque, with bits included from SW Beasts & Barbarians. When I first read DCC, I instinctively disliked the dwarf ...

Best foot forward

I am down to one week until my DCC campaign commences...but I am still toying around with which Funnel with which to open; no one has ever played DCC, and only a couple have ever played OD&D. I would prefer a mix or at least the presence of traps, puzzles, and combat. Primary Choices: Sailors on...

Re: Do we really need clerics and magic healing?

I don't use clerics in my fantasy games, they ... are not vital and break all sorts of suspension of disbelief. Interesting. I'm unsure what suspension of disbelief Clerics break that 1000 other things don't, though. Easy. Look at gaming in general, not just DCC. Start with memorizing spells, faili...

Re: Do we really need clerics and magic healing?

No, no we don't. Many OSR games are tossing out the Cleric and making Cure X a mage spell. Why not? I don't use clerics in my fantasy games, they don't exist. They are not vital and break all sorts of suspension of disbelief.
