Re: 20 point spell burn
The rule appears to me to be very simple: for 20 points of spell burn you get to assume your Spell check roll is a natural 20 and therefore a critical success. This means you cannot fumble since it is established that you scored a critical success and as you scored a critical success you get to add...

Re: Dragon Hit Points
Listen, I just gotta tell ya -- don't get between a baby dragon and it's momma. Seriously. This reminds me of how one group of players learned the lesson "The smaller the dragon, the harder the kill." Dragons, at least in my world, are solitary creatures that are fiercely independent... e...

Re: Dragon Hit Points
Consider maybe that dragons grow very, very slowly. So maybe a 1-5 year old dragon is very much like a kitten. Also consider a 6hp cat is stronger than 90% of all 0 levels. :-) Yeah, I did consider that, and in fact I do like that concept :) . And if you take that column literally, they do grow in ...

Re: Dragon Hit Points
I was thinking of maybe looking at it as a bonus as well...maxinstuff wrote:Yeah I read it as:
HD = number of hit dice to roll
HP per HD = additional HP per hit die
EDIT:
So in your example -
6 HD
1 HP per HD
Means you roll 6d12+6 for the dragon's HP.

Dragon Hit Points
I was messing around making a Dragon, and I am a little confused about one column on one of the tables, specifically the "HP per HD" column on Table II. So on Table I you determine a dragon's Size. Let's say we roll a 4, that would give us a small dragon (size range from horse to elephant)...

Re: Mercurial Magic - Who uses it?
I found that Mercurial Magic has really spurred my imagination regarding spells as a DM. For example one of our Wizards rolled that an ingredient was required for the Spider Climb Spell. So I determined that he carried around a bag of dead dried spiders, and he must EAT one each time he wishes to ca...

Re: Detect Magic Failure
I ruled that wizards lose the spell on a 1-11. Me too. In the hands of the wizard it's a wizard spell and works like every other spell. He's still not going to cast it as a cleric. I think I am going to go that route as well. It just makes sense and flows better with all of the other wizards spellc...

Re: Detect Magic Failure
* As per cleric spell of same name. Because the wizard version of the spell is a different spell level, the wizard receives a -2 penalty to spell checks when casting it. For example, binding is a level 2 cleric spell but a level 3 wizard spell; therefore, when rolling on the spell table, the wizard...

Re: Detect Magic Failure
Seems a little too easy to me. That may be the point; if you're a spellcaster, you can figure out the nature of magical things -- given time. It's what your class is about, yeah? If a Wizard has an afternoon to figure out what something is, just go with their highest possible roll. If they are doin...

Detect Magic Failure
We had a question come up in our last session. The Detect Magic Spell has no "Lost, corruption, etc." results on it's casting table. 1-11 is simply a failure. So my question is: Unless the caster really wants to try to get a better result using spell burn, what is the point of rolling for ...

Oh nice! I was wondering if any of the modules might have rules for it. I haven't picked that one up yet. That's good to know.Rick wrote:FWIW, there's rules for swimming & drowning in DCC #75 The Sea Queen Escapes! (pages 6-7).

Swimming
In keeping with the "simplistic" style of DCC gaming, how have many of you handled rules for swimming, drowning, etc.? Has anybody come up with any decent guidlines of who can swim? Do you base it off of profession? And what about the effects of heavy armor? Most rpg's seem to neglect the ...

Re: Zero Lvl PC's Burning Luck
I was thinking that it should stay as it is after the funnel as well. Was just curious how other GM's were handling it. I think that's the route I will go with my group as well. Just makes sense.

Zero Lvl PC's Burning Luck
It is my assumption that zero level characters can burn luck during the funnel. This is correct right? If that is the case, and a Human character has burned luck during the funnel, survives, then chooses the Thief class, does that character get his burned luck back? Or does it remain where it was af...

Re: Two Weapon Fighting and Deed Die
I have begun to think that this particular bit of text says "deed die" but actually is meant to say "action die." That small change makes the text perfectly clear, as the accompanying table shows the differences in action die - and it also prevents the text from disagreeing with...

Re: Introductions Thread - Join the Band!
Hi all! Name's Matt. Pretty much play (mostly GM) everything. Got my start with the D&D Red Box when I was 10 (still have my original d20, looks more like a small blue ball than a die now, heheh). After playing warhammer for years, I started looking for that old school "d&d feel again&q...

Two Weapon Fighting and Deed Die
On page 95 in the combat section, under Two Weapon fighting it says: Two-weapon attacks are less likely to hit, but the character may make two attack rolls where he would normally make one. Because a character’s off hand is usually not as strong or coordinated as his primary hand, his secondary atta...

Cleric Spells and Gods
Maybe I am missing something, but under the Cleric description in the rulebook, it says that a Cleric must choose a god, and that this choice will determine which spells the Cleric can cast. Nowhere can I find where it tells which spells belong to which gods. Any thoughts? On another note, can't wai...
