Re: How to handle player losing all their characters
Not a result of character death, but I had a new player show for session two of a Sailors funnel I was running out of a LGS. I just had him roll up a few peasants (with one less than the original players started with to cover earlier deaths) and they wandered into the scene at an appropriate time fo...

Re: Let's Talk About Spellburn
For my money, spellburn doesn't give *enough* of a bonus, particularly for characters that are already weak, but that's me. In most of the games I run, players are very very reluctant to spellburn...and even when they do, they do not spellburn much...so I haven't had huge issues with it. And, even ...

Re: Secret door base detection rules?
Lately, I've been leaving it up to player's actions. If they say they are inspecting and tapping on the wall behind the throne and there is a secret door there...they find it. I'll even settle for "I check the wall for secret doors," if the door isn't hidden in a very specific way. In the ...

Where do you imagine such a thing being set? Maybe the city of the birthplace of some Appendix N author or other, maybe?
If they held an all-DCC convention in Cross Plains, Texas, I would attend every year.

Re: What is the "Hobonomicon"?
I saw Doug Kovacs post about his upcoming project (with Wayne Snider, Stefan Poag and others), the Hobonomicon. Most of the issue is devoted to Doug's GenCon 2018 after hours DCC game, Escape from Planet Punjar. What is Escape from Planet Punjar exactly? Well it's an adventure/campaign starter fill...

DCC and Aereth.
Has anyone determined where the Shudder Mountains would be on a map of Aereth? I realize they can essentially be anywhere there are mountains, but I'm wondering if they've already been marked on that map by another. On a related note, is there list or a site anywhere that marks where the DCC publish...

Re: Fantasy Grounds
From what I understand, a fan has already done the lion's share of the work programming the rules into FG for his home game and GG would not allow him to make that mod packet available to others. He wasn't attempting to charge for it, he was just going to upload it into the community so that every s...

Re: Fantasy Grounds
Yeah, after doing 5e and Savage Worlds for months on FG, it was too hard a sell to convince my group to both try a new game AND not be able to use FG for anything but the maps, especially when even bringing those maps in would have required a lot of tweaking on my end.
Oh well.

Re: Fantasy Grounds
So our group switched over to Fantasy Grounds and it is great. We are liking it so much better than Roll20. With our busy lives and geographical distance it allows us to still maintain our weekly session. I almost had them talked into giving DCC a whirl. Everyone loved the rules and the old school f...

I would love the same thing for Roll20. I just about have my Roll20 group talked into trying a DCC funnel. I’m a relative noob with Roll20 and it will be my first time running on the platform. I’ve run several in person groups from funnel to 3rd level, so I’m not new to DCC, it’s just that getting e...

DM Report: Sailors on the Starless Sea - Part 1
We met again on Saturday at Pop Culture in Raymond, NH The group leveled up their survivors and even added a seventh member. One of the existing players lent a guy that was watching the game a survivor so he could sit in. He had never played an RPG before and had a great time. Once they leveled up, ...

DM Report: Portal Under the Stars (SPOILERS)
A little late getting this out, but I work at a college and we have finals going on. We started our DCC campaign at Pop Culture in Raymond, New Hampshire on Saturday, November 28th. The game went well and everyone really seemed to enjoy it. I ran the group through Portal Under the Stars. None of the...

Re: DCC RPG 4th printing: What do you want?
So it looks like a bunch of add-ons slid through on the KickStarter without me being aware of them (GM gems, Points of light, etc.) I just added them in the survey, hoping that someone will contact me if my pledge doesn't cover them all.
Anyone know if that's the case?

Re: Mutant Crawl Classics pre-order?
I, for one, love the KickStarter model. It allows smaller publishers like Goodman Games to offer a better product with less risk. Take the 4th Edition reprint for example. Traditional methods would have given me a 4th ed with new art and possibly a leather cover. Anything more would have been a risk...

Re: How do you deal with stupidly cautious players?
Grimtooth's Traps featured a lot of traps that were specifically designed to punish overly cautious delvers. If I remember correctly, someone just reprinted them. If you'd rather be nice, just be generous in awarding luck points to the characters that do take risks - Lady Luck does not favor ...

Clark Ashton Smith. I'm reading the collected works right now, and I can almost see the DCC cover for some of his stories. Or, if you are looking for a series that highlights the lighter side of gaming, you should check out Critical Failures by Robert Bevan. They're crude and use a lot of profanity,...

http://www.blackgate.com/ They do subscriptions in print and pdf (for the life of me I can't figure why the pdf isn't free if you get the print though). Most of the stories have a great Appendix N feel to them. I subscribed because they reminded me of the short stories they used to publish in the ol...

I'd make him straight wizard with mostly summoning/patron spells.
It's been a while since I read the books, but I remember his fighting prowess to be less than spectacular without Stormbringer.
And Melnibonean was an elder race, not just a nationality, right?

I used to have a player that would take offense when someone called him a min/maxxer.

Most of my games end up looking more like Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail than any other movie.
If you switched the setting of Dagon to a medieval fishing village instead of a modern one, it would be straight up Appendix N.
