Re: Who handles the tables?
I am still not convinced buy the "tables are only suggestions" thing. The Mighty Deed thing for example is something that is praised in all the reviews. But if it is not something that players feel that theres a mechanic behind it, what is the point then? Whats the difference to making an...

Re: Spell burn to regain spells
I agree with those who have concluded that the text is ambiguous. Count me in the "one burn, one recast" camp as well. I've got a fourth level wizard in my campaign. Magic missile is pretty devastating and he rarely loses it (I think he has +6 (+4 level, +2 Int) on casting checks, so only ...

Re: DCC RPG TEE SHIRTS---why can't we own them?
Joe, the subject was ripe for "because you are not worthy!" While I know you were joking, I had absolutely 150% positively NO WAY of attending the Con. That has nothing to do with my "worthiness," and a lot more to do with "I'm a responsible dude with a family and job...

Re: Strength check query
I haven't fully thought this through, but I personally don't like the idea of strength checks in most situations, especially where it's something like lifting a portcullis or opening a door. Consider a brawny fighter with 15 str (+1 mod) and a scrawny wizard with 6 str (-1 mod). The fighter strides ...

Re: Appendix N Book Club July 2014:The Dying Earth by jack V
Everyone should read everything by Vance.* I have to at least take mock offence that Doug referred to The Dying Earth as "a kind of hodge podge." It really represents one of the greater feats of literature/creativity in the 20th century. Also Vance conceived/wrote it on a clipboard ... On ...

Here's what Goodman said in the comments: "Here are my current thoughts on general timing of deliverables. (a) main module to be done by Gen Con, as was the plan. All backers to get PDF at that time. Backers physically at Gen Con can pick up copy. Backers not at Gen Con can have their copy of m...

One last thing : try to stop talking about balance. Ya I know that sounds dogmatic. try not to fix whats not broken. (Sorry for the slight thread jack, though I think this one's already a bit off the rails with the whole luck burn conversation). Philosophically I agree regarding "balance"...

Re: Longbow vs Crossbow
I'm not certain I'm sure what you mean by that. All three items doing the same damage? That's great. All three items having differing ranges and the item that, IRL, fires further NOT being the weapon that fires furthest? That's a bit of an odd duck. I sympathize with Ceronomus. I think there is a t...

Re: Best sources for adding equipment/magic items and monste
For me, one of the best, if not the best, aspects of DCC RPG has been the adjuration that every monster, and every magic item should be unique. I played in part of a more traditional D&D game for a few weeks recently and it was remarkable how boring it was to uncover an uptick in (yawn) goblin a...

Re: Courts of Chaos
Thanks Rick--that's actually incredibly useful. Any ideas for making the Court's offers more tempting to the party? I'm a little worried that my guys (like your group in the first game) will be highly skeptical of any offers from such chaotic beings and pretty much reject them out of hand, which wil...

Courts of Chaos
Has anyone run this module? I'm going to try and do it as a one shot next week. Any tips? I'm curious how the whole "temptation" by the various member of the Host of Chaos will go, and would love to hear other people's experiences.
Thanks,
Thanks,

Re: Mighty Deeds, dwarves, multiple actions.
Oncelor: That sounds like a much more complicated game that I like. I guess I'm probably not interested in high level play -- at least to the extent it looks like that. My PCs are just cresting level 4 and we've been playing for almost two years as well. I guess they die quite a bit, and we definite...

Re: Mighty Deeds, dwarves, multiple actions.
Our house-rule is to roll the deed die with each attack and to give each attack its own opportunity for a MDoA. How is that working out, given that as you level up to get those additional attacks, you also get a bigger Deed die, and thus have a better chance of pulling off a Deed...? I think it's n...

I found it pretty extraordinary that last week he talked about finishing up the first shipment to people in the $500 and $200 pledge levels "next week." That's only 6 people! The constant (extremely personal) excuses are also pretty bizarre. ETA: Also, it occurred to me the other day that ...

Re: How do characters carry bows when not in use?
I still think it would be nice to know how bows were secured to people when not is use...medieval style. Never know, if in a game, that knowledge might come useful. My relatively uninformed guess is that bows not in use would more or less always be unstrung and carried around as sticks. You're eith...

They need the handy dandy Bowtote (TM)! (apparently an actual thing -- http://www.bowtote.com/index.html) But seriously, we don't deal with it either. That said, I have a couple of players I wish weren't so ridiculous about having any given weapon instantly ready in any situation. Surprise a coven o...

One mustn't forget the open ended nature of Judgement in the game, as well. You say Lightning does less damage than Magic Missile, and this may be true, but do not forget the intangible assets of such a spell when interacting with the world itself. In OD&D, as it should be with all RPGs, a clev...

Welcome! (1) Yep, no magical healing. When they get to 0hp, they die. That way you can funnel down to just one or two per person in one session. As for natural healing, it's detailed on page 94 of the core book, but I can't imagine it would come up in many funnels. (2) Agreed about the disconnect so...
