Re: ...The Save Is Made Against The Spell Check Result...
My fix for the problems caused by spell save DCs (especially those of criticals on spells) that I thought up after no one could even possibly manage the save against an enemy critical on a spell which resulted in the entire party and all their hirelings dying: Half, round down. That would have been ...

Re: Warrior's Arm: Roll of "26" on table 1-2
I like to be thorough with my answers, as I find that helps people understand more of the "why" I think something: 1 -- The wizard scores a critical hit on an 18 or higher on an attack roll (provided a hit is obtained). That would be an increase of 2 to the character's "critical threa...

Re: Dagger damage question
The 1d10 damage expression, and any other damage following a "/" on the table is specifically stated as being for when that weapon is used with Backstab. The important thing to note is that "an attack from the rear of an opponent," and "a Backstab," are not the same thi...

Re: Questions about the zero level funnel
To use your example of an ogre, and elaborate upon how 0-levels stand up in my experience, I'll break things into the different moving parts. 1. Initiative - the Ogre has +2, which is better than most 0 levels characters. He is very likely to go before most of the players, since their using group in...

Re: Detemining creature Hp
So is anyone sure exactly WHY the modules list Hp values other than the average of the HD? The module writer rolled/decided up the HP just as was done in the old-school D&D modules... and the reason why is very likely because that's how it was done in the old-school modules. Are these values th...

Listen, I just gotta tell ya -- don't get between a baby dragon and it's momma. Seriously. This reminds me of how one group of players learned the lesson "The smaller the dragon, the harder the kill." Dragons, at least in my world, are solitary creatures that are fiercely independent... e...

The HP per HD thing is a throwback to old-school dragons that used to have their number of Hit Dice based on their color (not age) and had more or less HP for each HD to represent the differences between age categories. ...the way DCC puts dragons together is a bit odd since it tries to use both mor...

Re: "recovering the body"
You could always take a page from the rules, open the next session with the same characters in Hell, and let them fight their way out. Imagine the surprised look on the cleric's face when they come back? Imagine how funny it would be if the encounter concluded in the same way it previously did........

Re: "recovering the body"
Criticals are fantastic in DCC. ...matter of fact, just the last session of DCC I ran the party ran across a critical that not one player at the table is going to ever forget: They were facing off against an evil priest as their two ships drew into a naval battle, a great storm had rolled in and fro...

Re: Do we really need clerics and magic healing?
I don't have anything against the Cleric class, nor do I oppose magical healing... however, my favorite of systems handles damage and healing in such a way that First Aid and resting allow for ample feeling of resilience (i.e. you can typically throw on some bandages after a fight and keep going, th...

Re: burning luck
How and when do you reward Luck back to Players. In one campaign I was running, consisting of the official DCC modules, I awarded Luck to players at the conclusion of each module - that boiled down to a Luck reward about every 3 sessions, and the awards ranged from 1 to 3 points depending upon how ...

Re: Who holds the spell charts - GM or PC?
While this may be true, have you considered that a wizard who is smart enough to know when not to cast a spell might be attempting to do a good job role-playing their character's advanced intellect? I have always been of the opinion that, when dealing with magic as a chaotic and dangerous thing to ...

Re: Who holds the spell charts - GM or PC?
I prefer letting the players know what their spells do in vague terms, such as "if you get at least a 12 that spell provides you a defensive bonus against certain enemies, but if you roll pretty high that might actually manifest as an aura that protects your allies in the same way. In all cases...

I can see that perspective makes the girl pictured either quite small, or the house built for a giant... That picture was in Dragon? Do you know which issue? I'd like to see if I can get a look at it to satisfy my curiosity as to whether it was intended as a) a half-elf sneaking into a giant's place...

Re: Decent Pics of Halflings, Anyone?
I think Elmore pretty much redefined the Halfling in my books :) Ugh. I love some of Elmore's older works (he does great snowy landscapes), but this particular pic is something I don't; the whole 3e-style "microelves/microhumans" redefinition of halflings in 3e was not a good thing, imo. ...

There is not, nor is there really all that likely to be, any official "this is what mithril does" ruling. You should ask your Judge what differences there are between mithril weapons and normal weapons. Possiblities include, but are not limited to: lighter weight (possibly manifesting as a...

I don't understand. How is giving them an option to roll the d20 going to get a higher potential roll result than 20? 9. „A wizard who sacrifices a full 20 points of ability scores in one fell swoop automatically treats his next spell check as a roll of natural 20.“ - pretty sure I saw this discussed somewhere already, but I couldn’t find it just now. The question that came up for us was, wouldn’t it be worse to s...
