Re: Kill the Cleric?
For me, the divine magic system that'd be truest to Appendix N literature (I've read some of the authors' works but, admittedly, far from all) would be one where gods grant gifts or boons to individuals for good work, simple caprice, or whatever. These gifts could be given to individuals of any clas...

Re: Kill the Cleric?
I could easily see divine magic being rolled in to magic in general. At least one "real world" magical tradition (Enochian magic) treats divine magic more as essentially formulaic. That's not to say that a magic-user can't have genuine faith, it's just that he doesn't need it to cast divin...

Re: On saving throws
These days I'm intrigued by the idea of using ability scores as saves (which is what C&C does I think). I don't know what all the ability scores are for DCC RPG (I know we have Agility, Stamina, and Luck), but I like the idea of rolling Stamina to resist poisons, Agility to dodge area attacks, a...

Re: Challenging the stereotype
Delurking for a bit ... I don't mind 3e saves, although lately I've been warming up to the idea of using each ability score as a save (I think this is in C&C?). A Str save would be done to avoid paralyzation, holds, etc., a Con save would be done to resist disease, fatigue, etc., and so on. Each...

Re: Hero’s Handbook: Tieflings
I've been meaning to pick up both the Tiefling book and the Eladrin book, and this sample definitely seals the deal for me. It looks like it'll have a lot of neat info on devils I can use for my game.

Re: What are the top 10 things you love about 4E?
In no particular order: The implied "points of light" setting. The new cosmology. The prevalence of movement, positioning, and repositioning in combat. Ease of prep for DMs. A clear discussion of expected roles in combat. Many distinct, conceptually strong classes. Increased focus on teamw...

Re: Nice work!
I'd like to see similar books for all the races, but especially tieflings, gnomes (4e's non-tinker gnome, that is), half-orcs, and devas. No problem. Hero's Handbook: Tieflings in the final editing stage, and I'll be writing Hero’s Handbook: Half-Orc starting in the next week or so. Gnomes are defi...

Re: Nice work!
I picked up the dragonborn book and I think it's really good, too. The mood of the dragonborn in this book is unapologetic and strong, but also slightly sad and bittersweet. The eladrin book should also be cool. I'd like to see similar books for all the races, but especially tieflings, gnomes (4e's ...

Re: How is the 4e products selling?
While I don't have the inside numbers, I'd say that given the recent rounds of licensing announcements, if Goodman is doing well enough to be expanding, their 4E products must be doing at least "okay" and perhaps "very, very well." When you look at it, there really isn't any com...

Re: What 4E classes do you want from Forgotten Heroes?
I want to see a Martial Controller. Something like a reverse warlord - an individual whose intricate plans, uncanny foresight, or penetrating understanding of psychology stymie foes and/or break their wills.

Re: Ship Dates for 4E Modules
I think the new covers are great. I guess I have a mild preference for changing up the color of the borders (I don't mind white, I just like a variety of colors :) ), but that's really nothing too big. The only thing I absolutely don't like is that I have to special order them, because I don't want ...

Re: Ship Dates for 4E Modules
The hobby trade will get these modules before the book chains, and even then the book chains are ordering light because these modules don't have spines (e.g., stapled binding). You can still place special orders, and some book chains have placed orders. Our later releases for this year, the ones wi...

Re: Aereth and 4E
I really hope that 3rd party companies area able to use the default gods of 4e. The default gods are very flavorful and are a better fit than the current Aereth pantheon, IMO. Having said that, I've read a recent post by someone on D&D's brand team that implied that some monsters (the example wa...

Re: Aereth and 4E
Yes. Also, depending on how the GSL is worded, I'd like to look at merging the core D&D pantheon w/ Áereth. We'll see how that shakes out. I hope that works out! I like the 4e pantheon and think it's a good fit for Aereth. And here's to hoping you can use Drow, Yuan-ti, etc. Re: Warforged, IMC ...

Re: 4E combat illustrated
It's probably about as dependent on minis as 3e was. Now having said that, I, personally, wouldn't play either edition without minis - I just love them too much.JediOre wrote:How strong is 4th edition with the use of minis?

Re: 4E combat illustrated
Here's a question for you... why do you have the PCs starting on the western edge of the map? The module is explicit that they start on the eastern edge (see page 16, second section in "Setup": "Have the players place the miniatures of their characters on the road within 2 squares of...

Re: 4E DCC
Just to make it painfully obvious, will DCCs 52, 53, and 54 be available for purchase at Gencon? So unless something gets worked out, they ...

Re: Goodman Games and 4E
I'm reading the freebie text of "The Blackguard's Revenge" (I don't have it, but I'm thinking about picking up a few 3e DCCs before I can no longer do it), and came across this line: "Consumed by their anger, the cast-outs turned from the god of valor, embracing the god of vengeance a...

Re: DCC Tournament Year Five
Excellent. Whizbang Dustyboots can tell you that some of those teams are a hoot to play with. When we get closer to the event, I'll start trying to collate some of the ad hoc teams early, maybe save us all a bit of bother at the event itself. That's a good idea. If we can get a group together, we c...

Whew, I made it in. It was pretty hairy there for a moment. I'm in section 1-10. I entered by myself, so I'll probably be part of one of those ad hoc deals.
