Re: mighty deed disadvantage

If there are no penalty for Mighty Deeds, how do you handle a player that systematically spam a Disarm move at every attack ? Thogard speaks wisdom. My own theoretical solution is this: sometimes spamming an action like that would mean that an intelligent foe can start to see it coming, so I'd rais...

Re: Dwarf Shield Bash and Attack Die

Of course rules should be clear from the very beginning but anyway it's good product. Actually, some of us find the little gray areas in the rules to be a feature, not a bug. They get you to stop and think about what is meant to be achieved by the rules and then what's the "best" way to do that... ...

IMHO, yes.

The purpose of calling out when modifiers do not change is, I believe, the assumption that they otherwise do.
Seconded.

Re: What am I missing about Find Familiar?

Raven, the "higher" part is on pg 316. It pretty plainly says the higher the roll the more powerful the familiar. But then the chart just gives you different types of familiars, and they are assorted differently by Alignment. I can't detect anything that makes them "more powerful" based on higher ro...

Re: Adding luck to thieves and halflings?

Thieves and Halflings should be burning Luck during play as a regular thing. Luck awards simply add to your current score, for all Classes. Luck awards are going to generally bring Thieves and Halfings back toward their base total (faster than 'healing' it back as per Class rules). If they should ha...

Re: What am I missing about Find Familiar?

I think you're right, it must be something left over from the draft version of the game, that slipped into the printed version.

BTW, there have been no "edition updates". It's one edition all along. Many printings (we're up the 8th!), but just one edition.

In relation to the Man in the Green Velvet Coat, since he's immortal and is fond of humanoids but doesn't see them as intelligent, they are 'pets' in the same way as some folks consider their dogs and cats. https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/151691/Patrons-Extraordinary-The-Unpretty-Preview-DCC-RP...

Re: Mighty Deeds for Monster

I would not dilute the Mighty Deed by giving it out to monsters. The Ogre wants to shove someone out of the way? That takes an action. If they have more than 1 Action Die, they can do that and then attack, too, in the same round. What I have sometimes done is give a monsters a very specific ability,...

Re: That dice chain

Oh, and when it comes to attacks and the Dice Chain, when you go up, the Officially Unofficial Official Rule is that your previous crit numbers remain in place and the new top number is also a crit. So if you crit on a 19-20 on a d20, you'll crit on 19-20 and 24 on a d24, and on 19-20 and 24 and 30 ...

Re: That dice chain

I think I rarely give out numerical bonuses or penalties. Sure, the book has some listed on page 78 for combat, but I rarely reference that chart, and when I have done so, I sometimes still go with my gut and not what the chart says. I do bump people up and down the Dice Chain for situational stuff....

If I were changing images in the book, those two cartoons would definitely be the top of the list. I can still remember first getting the book and looking through it in 2012 and thinking "really? now...?"

The same die(-type) applies to all attacks. Don't go stepping down the Dice Chain or anything like that... Use the Exact Same Die™ when rolling each attack...

The license with WotC does not allow any electronic versions.

Re: Two weapon fighting backstab

IMO, the Backstab is a single attack. Thieves eventually get two Action Dice, but the way the Backstab ability is phrased, it sounds like there's only one attack at a time that's a Backstab. With dual weapon fighting, I'd ask the player to declare which die or which roll includes the Backstab bonus ...

Re: Dwarf Shield Bash and Attack Die

It seems to me that if the game was purposely designed to only allow one Deed per round, regardless of however many attacks a Dwarf or Warrior could deal in a round, the rules would specifically say "You get one Deed per round, period." This I cannot find in the book. They do say "before any attack"...

The Fifth Edition Fantasy line is in support of 5th Edition D&D.

DCC RPG is it's own game, not part of any edition of D&D.

You could adapt adventures from one system to the other, and many folks do exactly that, but they are not identical in their mechanics.
