Re: Rolling > 30 on Table 1-2: Luck Score

The sentence that begins This "lucky roll" is modified... does not refer to the roll on table 1-2, but rather the result of your 1d30 roll on table 1-2. Exactly: the [result of the roll] is modified by your Luck Modifier. Also note, sometimes things say modifier, and it might be talking about modif...

When he got the boon he was at 7. 7+5=12 It's that easy. He's now got 12 Luck to play with... For all cases, the award takes you from where you are now, to a new number. That new number is only capped if you have a default cap on ability scores. For the Halfling and the Thief, they have to keep trac...

Kylessa steps out of the gatehouse and into the rain. A flash of lightning illumes the way before her, accompanied by a distant scream... Was that a raised hand seen in the tree limbs? The flashing of the electric storm is quick and fluttering, with much to take in within mere fractions of a moment ...

the treasure tables, Not really certain what the question here is, unless it's "how much treasure should I dole out?" My answer is "would it be fun to give them a lot of treasure? Would it be fun to see what they do with it? Would it be fun to see how many adventures could be sparked off the back o...

...if they are granted a bonus at the end of an adventure and it takes them over their permanent Luck score, I might provide any overage as Fleeting Luck (see Lankhmar) to be provided at the beginning of the next session. Re: Luck rules et all

I must be in minority, my players do not seem to want to burn luck. The halfling would to so extent to help others, but the majority dont do it. That's something that happens with some groups. And some of those some groups eventually see the benefit and fun to be had by spending Luck and start doin...

Re: Luck rules et all

Assuming Thieves and Halflings have spent no Luck during an adventure, then indeed their Luck reward will push them higher. But since Luck expenditure is part of their strength as characters, they are liable to spend some in an adventure that's worth a Luck award at the end. So it basically means th...

Mercer more or less agrees. "I'd rather be on his good side, if I have to be on a side at all..."

Re: The Corpse That Love Built - PbP

The room is spartan, and checking it in detail reveals that it must see little use, cobwebs and wind-swept detritus abound and a layer of dust, dirt and grime coats the floor, bar a few faint carriage tracks of some age. Pushing the figures on the roof over the wall poses no problem, and the windlas...

Hodin hits the thing with such a brutally savage strike that he knocks it to pieces, which clatter to the stone ground of the gatehouse. Beyond your collective breathing, all is silent in the stone room. The portcullis leading into the estate is down, it's windlass above, back on the roof. The drawb...

Hodin crashes his sword down on the 2nd contraption, cutting through bamboo, wood, and meat strips alike! Obadiah's javelin goes slightly wide as the contraption creatures move forward a bit faster than expected. Kylessa beans the one in the lead with a stone as it takes a swing at Obadiah! Atk 20, damage 7! [not a natural 20, so no crit, FYI] The second contraption creature moves alongside it's mirror ...

Yep.

While the Funnel does abstract a few things for ease of play with 12-24 characters (at the start of the game, anyway), most things still apply.

Re: Minor Birth Augurs for Luck 8-12

An alternative to a fixed modifier for the augers is to use 1d7-4+Luck Modifier. If your Luck mod is 0, then your auger’s “bonus” ranges from -3 to +3 and is 0 on average. If your Luck mod is +2 then your auger bonus ranges from -1 to 5 and is 2 on average. Etc. Admittedly it makes things more swin...

Re: Level 0 Funnel Advice: small party/ limited time

LOTS of 1st Level adventures work well as a Funnel, without even changing anything.

You could even adapt a 1st Level adventure from D&D or another game.

I don't know of any *short* Funnels. But then again, maybe we have different definitions of *short*...

Re: New here, some questions

So you're asking about "how many monsters per level" or things like that? If you haven't played any of the published adventures before, it's hard to have a common frame of reference, and there can be a lot of variables, like party size, but I'll try... If you're just starting off and feeling your wa...

Obadiah carefully picks his way down the stairs under the trap door, Hodin and Kylessa following a bit behind... At the bottom of the stairs is a room formed by the walls of the gatehouse. In the back wall is a portcullis, presumably attached to the windlass above.. In the front wall is the drawbrid...

Re: New here, some questions

1) the armor AC is + agility? so if you have a shield + agi 18 + full plate = AC 22 Correct. Though that 18 Agility is going to be mighty rare. And starting characters are very unlikely to be able to get a hold of such armor, either. So a character with an AC of 22 is going to be really very rare f...

Re: Dark but not too dark...

I want to avoid the apathy that comes with too much grim darkness. How would I manage to make the players actually care despite the setting being pretty bleak? If you're not sure how the players will react, that's a tough call. But I can see a line between "it's all over, just give up" and "things ...

But Keep on the Borderlands should be on the edge of an unexplored area. Assuming such still exist in the FR, find one you like and place it there, eh?
