Re: More spells? Would you support a SpellBook for Kickstart

I'd be more interested in a book that develops stories around the spells. So, some might be just "random dweomers you find", but others might be the goal of a quest - with the quest included in the book. Or perhaps obtainable only in a deal with a demon - and guidance to the DM of how to s...

Re: What do you think they'll do for issue #100?

I'd love to see something a bit larger with potential of an episodic nature. Perhaps a location with access to numerous planar portals? Alternately, something with a real sci-fi twist a la Spell Jammer or Barrier Peaks. (Or combine the two together). Not exactly a megadungeon, but something that cou...

Re: So I caved and bought the LE DCC RPG book.

My Mom was (and is) pretty religious and strongly Christian. I never recall her doing anything to discourage my D&D playing (which I really got into by the time I was in third grade - very early eighties). I asked her about it recently and she said. "Well, I tried to sit in and play with yo...

Re: Getting the funnel right

There is an excellent post on this topic here: http://rpggeek.com/thread/819350/designing-0-level-funnel-adventures I don't think I can say anything that this post doesn't sum up well. Weird circumstances, traps and dangerous situations are great for 0 level play. Combat, as you noted, is swingy, so...

Re: Halfling Lucky Charms

I am confident the last sentence just means that there are no limitations to which rolls or roll types the halfling may spend his luck on for the ally. If the ally could spend luck on that roll, the halfling may as well. While you can argue that it isn't strictly needed, it is often the case that an...

If you really want to use luck this way then perhaps just house rule that you can use Luck to change your own AC against a single attack. So, if a monster hit by a margin of 3 you could spend 4 luck to negate the hit.

Remember that the "Recover the Body" rules don't apply to Level 0 characters. We just ran a level 0 the other night and had this exact same discussion. I like the rules as-is because it forces the players into pro-active mode. Want to burn luck? do it on your action. Go big and attempt som...

Re: How is everyones stamina holding up? (includes session l

I'd definitely only allow one free swing if all the characters bolt at once. Beyond that, I've felt from the beta that the Stamina loss was a bit too harsh. I think the options are: House rule that the ability score loss varies. House rule a way for characters to heal some Stamina lost in this way o...

Re: The Ulfheonar's Tomb + Curious Players = End of Campaign

He has yet to spend even one point of luck. I think this is your answer. This player wants to play something more like 4E where he can be a cinematic hero. (I actually really like 4E, but it has a totally different tone in play). Given this info, I don't think it would help you to just capitulate. ...

Re: Attack Modifier Table and Blindess

Is it okay to say "it depends"? The thing I see here is that if you assign a horrible penalty to hit, make all movement be in a random direction and there is no reasonable way to get light, you've essentially just set the table for a protracted segment ending in a TPK. I think I'd try to l...

Re: The Ulfheonar's Tomb + Curious Players = End of Campaign

One player who has died more times than I can remember in my short campaign It sounds like there is a disconnect between your DM style and this player's play style. One thing I like about DCC is that it is deadly and capricious. But if a player is dying this much (outside the funnel) then something...

Re: Peer Review: Encumbrance Rules for DCC

Seems quite thorough, but I'm sure I'd never use it. I've long ago discovered that any encumbrance rules which take more than about fifteen seconds to compute don't get followed very consistently. I'll probably just stick with "judgement call" encumbrance. Anything more than two moderate s...

Re: Multi-Classing

My first thought is that the character choosing ant alternate class gets the base new hit points from their base class, but one single advantage (as though level one) from the alternate class. Spells would be only a single new spell, not four. A warriors hit points die is a class feature for the lev...

Re: Burning LUCK before a roll ??

Personally, I think the best way to look at it is that a player who announces they want to burn luck on the roll before they roll the dice isn't breaking any rules - but there is no requirement they do so. The game works fine with all luck burning happening after rolls, something about the rule also...

I've been watching this thread with great curiosity. Re: Large mixed-level groups, fast combat, "Active Defense"

Why not just give a "full defense" option that precludes any other action and automatically gives a bonus to all defenses (say +2?) Don't allow it if the character moves or does any other action on their turn. I'm not sure the extra rolls are adding that much to the experience at this poin...

Re: Mighty Deeds and non-Warriors

There are a couple philosophies on this. Some folks feel that to allow other characters any opportunity to do these sorts of things steps too much on the Warrior's turf. Others (like me) think that occasionally the obvious thing to do is to try to shove the other guy over the edge of the cliff, whet...

Re: Three Things I Don't Love About DCC

1 - Spell results are written out in most cases so that there is a lot of repeated word count between entries; I'd have preferred entries that were intentionally brief instead. For example, saying "as 12-13 except the damage is 1d4 + caster level" for the 14-17 result on the magic missile...

Re: Three Things I Love about DCC

1 - I think the Mighty Deeds rules are genius. The extra die and then possibility to do something special every round of combat makes a game about warriors exciting again. Heck, you could run a whole campaign with just this class and have a great time. 2 - I love that spell casting is such that it i...
