IMO that's an outstanding idea...Ze Groupe wrote:Just out of curiosity, why do none of the weapons utilize the funky dice for damage? Wouldn't they be a cool way to make small differences between various very similar weapons?

Re: Dice...
Did people get all bent out of shape when Aces & Eights went with a transparent target, poker cards and chips? What about Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay and their ridiculous proprietary dice? A bit, yes. On various forums both took flak for the specialized equipment. However, both games provided al...

Re: Dice...
My major complaint about the funky dice is that I want convenience most of all (particularly when dropping $20 on a dice set). To me that means: Opaque dice Pre-Inked in a contrasting color (easily visible) No sanding or 'fixing' required to use A complete set of the non-standard shapes in one box ...

Re: Level 10+
From the [Design Question] DCC RPG and 10 Levels thread ~ http://www.goodman-games.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=9446&start=125 Levels above 10 should be individual campaign boxed sets that deal with 'higher levels' as needed for the campaign therein. That, to me, would be beautiful. I re...

Well that's undeniably "Old School..."jmucchiello wrote:As has been mentioned elsewhere, there will not be (initially) a monster book. Re: Any Prerequisites?
By the way, I should be more careful in my phrase selection, since "min/max" has been often taken as an insult but most gamers want to get a decent character and look for ways to maximize their strengths. I didn't mean to imply that you were one of those folks who take "min/max"...

Re: Any Prerequisites?
Good to know, although I think I'd rather be a strong fighter or smart wizard if possible. Remember the random nature of character generation. Stats are rolled in order, which sort of defines what each character is best at, but later there are certain random traits due to luck or profession which m...

For either races or classes? I only ask because they were big back in the day and since the feel of this game is obviously very 'old-school...' Not really. If you want to be a smart fighter or a stong wizard, that's okay. Good to know, although I think I'd rather be a strong fighter or smart wizard...

Re: About Monsters/NPCs...
Having said that, of course somebody (GG or other) will crank out one or more monster books. Players want them. You'd think so, but I'm unsure whether this is true. I know the Swords & Wizardry Monster Book hasn't been re-vamped because the sales weren't good. Frog God Games seem to be going fo...

Re: About Monsters/NPCs...
And, like it or not, if it's in the core rulebook there's a good chance that players will see it and know about it. Especially if you have a group that rotates DM's. So, having new monsters in each module helps keep things fresh and unknown. Good point, though it strikes me that even if GG doesn't ...

Re: About Monsters/NPCs...
I might be in the minority, but I actually don't need stats for monsters outside of their 'combat' stats. How strong is a Giant? Stronger than you... how smart is a Giant? (depends on the story that is being told) The dexterity of a giant ant was never something I lost sleep over. As far as monster...

About Monsters/NPCs...
...at this point they're my last remaining real concern. I do hope they have Stats and such and don't revert to being just a bland modifier-less stack of meat with xp attached...that's the biggest (by far) knock I have on old-school D&D.

Re: Changes due to playtests
Probably the biggest change is the ability score progression. I like the current system, which is closer to the 1980 rules sets -- not the 3E system of "+1 for every 2 points." That's great to hear! Is it only closer, or the same? Can you tell us what are the lowest and highest possible a...

Any shot at a Demo for Origins?
Origins is notoriously slow/late to release what's on their schedule so I figured I'd come straight to the source
