Re: Transylvanian Adventures - Land of Phantoms - Ask-Me-Anything

You mentioned that you're getting hung up on PDF formatting, but that sounds like more of a psychological block to me, a sort of perfectionism maybe? Just run with what you have. Trust me; people will want the content. I know I do! You're not wrong. I am depressed. Not about TA. But it has affected...

Re: Transylvanian Adventures - Land of Phantoms - Ask-Me-Anything

Scott! Good to see you! I guess the thing that comes to mind is this: If there are new things for TA or even a revamped TA in the pipeline, my question is: How can I help? Hi GnomeBoy. I still have a ton of notes and even an early draft of some things. There are probably a few things I could put ou...

Transylvanian Adventures - Land of Phantoms - Ask-Me-Anything

Hi all: It's been a while! Sorry for being gone so long. A lot's happened in the... (checks watch... checks calendar... sighs deeply) time I've been away. I'm happy to see folks like finarvyn, crowking, gnomeboy, and others I remember still around here. It's nice that there are familiar faces in the...

Re: Removing the Cleric

Has anyone come up w/ a way without doing too much violence to the system to remove Clerics? For example, moving their spells to the Mage class or providing a second wind sort of thing. Transylvanian Adventures uses "Staminaburn" to restore lost hit points. It's Ruin mechanic also stands ...

Re: 2012: Transylvanian Adventures & The Transylvanian Grimo

Any news since October, smathis? At last report you were very, very busy, but were about to sign up a co-author. How did that go? If there's any way that any of us fans can help the rest of TATG make its appearance, I'm sure we'd be glad to. I certainly would. Hope I'm not nagging too much, but I r...

Re: 2012: Transylvanian Adventures & The Transylvanian Grimo

Thanks for those tips, I have no idea what the Ruin rules are, I just got the adventure with a streamlined version of the rules, so I suppose the Ruin rule should be detailed in the TA rulebook. We had a very funny session that ended in a total killed party, once the had the girl they bypassed some...

Re: 2012: Transylvanian Adventures & The Transylvanian Grimo

I plan to play this adventure to my group next saturday as a Halloween game. Any advice or clue to keep in mind? (first TA game for all of us, but we already played several DCCs) If you've played or run DCC RPG in the past, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how similar they feel in play. Do...

Re: 2012: Transylvanian Adventures & The Transylvanian Grimo

Finally got a chance to play. We played the "Winter Home" adventure. One of the best session I've been a part of. One hp away from a TPK. But, our female reaver was able to killed the big bad guy through the sacrifice of the other 3 players. The GM allowed all of the characters who died i...

Re: 2012: Transylvanian Adventures & The Transylvanian Grimo

Major suggestion: This game needs a generic Zero-Level character sheet split into two columns for funnels. Perhaps an add on in TG??? I have one around here somewhere. I'll see if I can dig it up. Otherwise this is a fabulous supplement to DCC! Also does anyone here have a suggestion on which versi...

Transylvanian Adventures has an In-Between Adventures thing that I use to explain the lapse of time between the end of the funnel and the emergence of a 1st level character. Works out pretty well.

Re: What DCC Needs Is.....

Not sure if anyone would be interested but I've been putting some time in on the monster chapter in TA . It will be available as PDF until the rest of the second book (The Hanging Judge's Guide to Transylvania) is complete. I'd estimate it's about 3 months off, given a month for layout/editing and s...

Re: Difference between D&D dungeons and DCC dungeons

I definitely think there's a distinction between the classic D&D dungeons and DCC RPG ones. I'm not sure if there's a purpose behind that distinction. But the idea of the 5-level dungeon with 100s of rooms being the central focus of one storyline doesn't seem to be a part of DCC at the moment. A...

Ah yeah, forgot about the adversary die. I had the PCs go over "what did you learn from the investigation" and explained to them about the adversary die. The adversary die was a d20. They were so disappointed in themselves when it only went down to a d14. :D Yup. That can really creep a g...

Re: 2012: Transylvanian Adventures & The Transylvanian Grimo

I ran the third session on Sunday. It was just a straight dungeon crawl through a variant of The Portal Under the Stars. It turned out to be super-deadly, mostly because of a couple of added/changed monster encounters I put in. Only one PC (of seven) survived, but for the grace of the Judge (I deci...

Re: 2012: Transylvanian Adventures & The Transylvanian Grimo

Excellent! I hope so. TA tackles a few of the challenges of low or no magic fantasy roleplaying and does so differently from other games that have tried the same (like Iron Heroes). It actually does S&S very well. There's a fun space in there where the TA classes could be used for a Tales of Fa...

Is there any information about using TA as is for S&S campaign. So instead of using DCC spells and classes, you just use the book as is for a grittier world. HN Great question. That has been written and submitted for the next copy of DAMN. Its called the S&S setting hack And includes instru...

Argh, a tough choice, but yeah. I've been using monsters from other OSR stuff (and AD&D 2e) with slight tweaks, and it's been working out OK. I am really curious to see the TA versions of Gothic classics like vampires, werewolves, abominations, and in particular named adversaries like Dr. Frank...

Re: 2012: Transylvanian Adventures & The Transylvanian Grimo

Regarding the future publishing model referenced on the blog, I'd like to vote for the magic system. There are references to 0-level rituals and quickcast spells in the existing classes, and I'd like to be able to answer questions about them if my players ask when they're choosing a class. They wil...
