New & Shiny Stuff to Buy

Okay, if you're going to TORMENT me with all the things I cannot get at GenCon because work prevents me from attending, the LEAST you could do is let me preorder now!

Please ... think of the children ...

... because they're the ones who will suffer ...

... when I kill their gongfarmers.

Nothing says 1970's like a good patch for your army jacket!
Just wondering if this patch was ever made ...

Re: No Skill Chapter

Actually, I prefer the Luck die as-is. That would effectively double the proposed funky die modifier, and really help the Thieves out. So you would have the player be able to spend as much Luck in one go as possible -like in the Beta rules? What I mean is limiting the player to spending 1d3 for wha...

Re: No Skill Chapter

For Thieves if you also burn 1 point of Luck you get a sweet modifier: 2d3 avg (class die + Luck die) = +4 2d4 avg = +5 2d5 avg = +6 2d6 avg = +7 2d7 avg = +8 So if I were using this I would change the expenditure when you burn luck. Maybe just 1d3 each time, whatever your level. So a Thief who not...

Re: No Skill Chapter

Okay, I lied. I looked, and it seems that, overall, the progression of bonuses by level is generally superior to replacing the bonus with a funky die. Hm. Sorry ... I suppose actually I'll just be keeping the funky die for the warriors. *sheepish grin* Yes, it is and IMO that is a benefit as well s...

Just curious ... Why did Backstab bonuses suddenly change on these "D20 vs. DC" charts from the Beta rules?

Re: No Skill Chapter

On second thought ... I would have to disagree with using the class die for spell casters' spell checks. Here's why: All else being equal ... At first level, a d3 gives the caster a 100% chance to do equal to or better than simply adding class level (roll 1, 2. or 3). At second level, a d4 gives the...

Re: No Skill Chapter

Might I say, well done jmucchiello! I must admit, I find this simple table to be sweet and perfect. It allows for a uniform mechanic across the board, is elegant and simple, and is easy to remember, plus it makes good use of the funky die mechanic. I must admit, while my first outing with the DCC Ru...

Re: Birth Augur and Lucky Roll

I do like many of the ideas in this thread. I think that it would indeed be useful to hand out Luck points at the end of a module (some may even want to go by session, depending on how often Luck is spent in-game). I do think that if the GM does so, the cap should be the character's original Luck sc...

Re: Percentage Thief Skills

For those who want to try the "d20 version" of the thief, here is the set of abilities that I was using for most of 2010, before I changed them to percentile skills. Gaah, I can't get this to display right..."best attempt" here...hopefully someone can make sense of this. If I need to I'll figure ou...

Re: Idea: Remove most negative penalties from DCCRPG

There are a lot of places where negative penalties are assigned to die rolls where it might make more sense for the entire die roll to be rethought. DCCRPG already does this in the two-weapon fighting rules. Instead of using the rules of 3e directly: -6 primary -10 secondary, it drops the die size ...

Re: Percentage Thief Skills

One thing that you might of missed in the first walk though of the thief is the following: Thieves are supposed to burn luck to do successful thief checks. And luck can be burnt after you failed the initial check. For example: 50% chance to pick the lock... I rolled a 70%. I need 20% more. As a 3rd...

Re: Percentage Thief Skills

Secondly, can we collapse the thief skill list? Combine Sneak Silently and Hide in Shadows to a generic "stealth" roll? I agree that this would be a more elegant way to handle Stealth (or whatever you choose to call "avoid being noticed"). I think it's been noted elsewhere that the point of these s...

Re: Percentage Thief Skills

+D30...ha! Ironically the thief skill system was d20 based for the first year of playtesting. I just changed it a month or two ago. The thief class just wasn't quite "special" enough. I think the use of the Luck die really made a difference in that. So far the reaction to % skills in games has been...

If I might ask ... I AM going to Games Day after doing a charity walk/run, but if all the copies are gone, will the starter adventure later be available online in PDF format, say through RPGNow? I ask because I intend to run a playtest game with local teens. (I'm the Teen Librarian at our library.) ...

There WILL be a Games Plus playtest, on the evening of Thursday, March 24, the Thursday before Gary Con. The store has set aside their back room. If you're interested in playing, post here or shoot me a note, and let the signup sheet begin! Darn it! I work that night. Hm. Ah well ... See you @ Gary...

Re: DCC RPG Playtests in Chicago prior to GaryCon

Hi everyone, I'll probably in Chicago for a couple days before or after Gary Con. I'm planning to run a public playtest if anyone is interested, probably out at Games Plus (one of my all-time favorite game stores). If you're not able to make Gary Con and are interested in taking part, let me know.....
