Re: Representin', as the younger hip kids say.

I, for one, would LOVE to see Into the Wilds done as PF, with all the errata/corrections included and the maps as accurate as possible....and maybe, if Harley were up for it, even a little Easter Egg bonus area. That adventure "broke my cherry" re: DMing, and holds a special place in my h...

Re: Books arrived...now I am pissed!

Yeah, mine has slightly bent corners, but nothing that wouldn't happen after a couple weeks of use anyway. I had the same experience and I certainly expected the packaging to be better. Having said that, I'm more of a gamer than a collector and my excitement about using this great, inspiring game i...

Re: The pre-order shipments have left the printer!

Maybe the St. Louis area is another hotbed of gaming goodness. (Second place to the Chicago region, naturally.) Lots of gamers in St. Louis, but we tend to be pretty fragmented. :) However...as of 10 minutes ago, Hazelwood has been DCC'd! I agree with the fragmented assessment of the St. Louis gami...

Re: Initiative and Two-Handed Weapons

I think bholmes4's options have merit, but I would propose the following: At the start of any combat where a Warrior wielding a two-handed weapon is not surprised, the Warrior rolls their Attack die. If the result meets or exceeds the opponent's Hit Dice or Level, they receive a free attack as soon ...

Re: Critical Hits and Burning Luck

I'm certainly inclined to let burned luck affect critical hits (and fumbles, for that matter). Any in-game roll (hp rolls being excluded, thereby) should be open, I think.

Re: Initiative and Two-Handed Weapons

Given the several disadvantages to using larger two-handed weapons in DCC, I'd very much like to see it them offer characters the ability to get a first strike against approaching foes with shorter reaching weapons. Once melee is engaged, I certainly understand the initiative penalty, but by offerin...

Re: Birth Augur and Lucky Roll

Even without burning any luck, the large majority of 0 level characters are not blessed by the stars in the least. I'm content with the system as is, but I might change my mind if I wasn't using the character funnel to winnow out the worst of the worst (i.e., if I was creating a character starting a...

Re: Electrum pieces

This was an issue in my playtest session yesterday. I'm using The Keep on the Borderlands and found that I was having to juggle some math when the characters were at the tavern to keep things from being priced very strangely. I too would recommend sticking closer to traditional conventions on electr...

Awesome playtest report. I'm jealous of your players. Hoping the they had as much fun playing as I did reading. //H Harley, it wouldn't have happened at all without your comment after the Sunday session you ran at NTRPGCon that you thought TKotB would be interesting to try using the DCC RPG rules. ...

The Keep on the Borderlands

So we started our DCC RPG playtest last night with The Keep on the Borderlands. Four players rolled up four 0 level characters apiece. Rolling characters was pretty enjoyable thanks to the random charts for pretty much everything. One thing that might have helped is a random chart for character name...

Re: Is corruption meant to be permanent?

The problem is 1 in 20 is far too frequent for the health of a long running game. I don't think DCCRPG is meant to be a long running game though. Players with wizards as characters are going to be most effective when they have some idea of how long a GM intends for given game to continue. However, ...

Weapons

I'm in the midst getting ready for our group's first DCC RPG playtest session this evening. I'm going to be running The Keep on the Borderlands and was working out how I will handle AC and damage given the differences between DCC RPG and the module/D&D. In doing so, I was looking at and thinking...

Re: Power scale of DCC

Well, based on my kill ratios at playtest sessions, I think power inflation is the least of your worries. I would focus more on getting ANY of your characters to 2nd level. Hell, even getting to 1st level would be an accomplishment. I too like to run challenging games that result in large PC body c...

I'm really excited about this. I have a gaming group together right now that, by all indications, would love to give the DCC RPG a whirl. The open beta rules can't get here soon enough! Why wait 6 months? Let's see an alpha version now!
