Re: Posting Castle Whiterock Conversions to Pathfinder
Believe it or not, this is still a thing! Last weekend, the "new group" finally got past the derro slaver outpost on 7 (where the original PC group fell apart) and entered the Immense Cavern. At this point they are about 7th level, have cleared out the Hidden Fane of Justicia and unearthed...

Re: Posting Castle Whiterock Conversions to Pathfinder
AAAND at great long last we have picked up the campaign again... but with a brand new group! This time around, the new players and their 4th level pcs are in town looking for a way to deliver a package. Long story short they are "highly motivated" to seek out one Lorus Swiftquill, Abbot of...

Re: Castle Whiterock Question & Actual Play
Re: the OP's question, no there's nothing that would prevent them from climbing over the tunnel and then rappelling down the other side into the courtyard. However, as the DM, you can make it very unappealing. Note the rocky cliffs, the steepness of the climb, the number of Climb check required both...

Re: Need help repopulating levels 1-7
Going through a similar thing now. Party steamrolled down to 7, got in over their heads with the derro, then the players shuffled. Some levels were scoured clean while others had bloody paths carved through them to the next level. The Slavers of the Iron Manacle, Kargra's white orc tribe (but not Dr...

Re: Posting Castle Whiterock Conversions to Pathfinder
I've finally started my CW campaign! In fact the party has just hit 5th level overall, and stumbled into level 7 almost by accident after sweeping the troglodytes from levels 4 and 6 (FYI, Oracle of the Heavens is sick and wrong). They have yet to find A'quilya or the library, but they've cleaned ou...

Re: Posting Castle Whiterock Conversions to Pathfinder
First: Wow I am a horrible person. I haven't checked on this thread in a looong time. I can't believe it's May already. Sorry but the main working copy of the conversion became corrupted, so I lost all of level 5 and 6 and haven't started over yet. Mea culpa! Second: Badger, you are my hero! ...

Re: Posting Castle Whiterock Conversions to Pathfinder
Okay, another update. Processing level 5. Had to break for a mid/high-level game - (Madness! The mostly 13-ish party broke into a major evil temple, took out a fully prepped lvl 15 cleric replete with amped merregons and hokey 'themed' temple rooms, neatly captured a long term villain and banished a...

Re: Posting Castle Whiterock Conversions to Pathfinder
Finished level 4! Cinderalis... A very young red in PFRPG is CR 8 as opposed to it's CR5 equivalent in 3.5; probably a bit much to handle for a group of 4th level characters, particularly if they've been taking hits from the troglodytes. I replaced him with a wyrmling at CR 6... On to the Clockwork ...

Re: Posting Castle Whiterock Conversions to Pathfinder
Wending my way through stinky troglodyte conversions on level 4... This is going much more quickly than it did the first time around! A note on my conversion logic: If the source material was Core 3.5 and it exists in Core PFRPG, I use that. If the source material was Core 3.5 and it doesn't exist i...

Re: Posting Castle Whiterock Conversions to Pathfinder
I've already run into problems with Cinderalis (there's a big power gap between a VY red drag in 3.5 and the same creature in Pathfinder). I can only guess at the amount of adjustment I'll have to do with Benthosruthsa and Silhouette!

Re: Posting Castle Whiterock Conversions to Pathfinder
You can totally do that! It's not that hard to finagle skill and ability checks, at least at the lower levels. Where it gets tricky is with higher character-level-ed monsters. A flat transfer of lower level creatures is pretty painless since you usually aren't losing much, but the CR of a higher lev...

Re: Posting Castle Whiterock Conversions to Pathfinder
Mechanically Pathfinder is very similar; still d20 based and still similar to 3.5. There are a few sticking points around feats and magic item slots, but these have not been terribly problematic. Nearly every non-custom creature in Castle Whiterock exists in either the Bestiary or Bestiary 2, or was...

Re: New CWR Campaign started... TPK first room!
Sometimes this happens, particularly at 1st level. I believe this is the reason that many players prefer to skip level 1 entirely. There isn't a lot of spare room for noobs, resource-wise, so little bumps in the statistical curve can tip the game over. One way I get around this is by giving 1st leve...

Re: Posting Castle Whiterock Conversions to Pathfinder
Finished off Drugila's lair yesterday during a lull at work. Then I realized "oh yeah, you know, item slots changed from 3.5 to PF. I'd better go over those a little more carefully..." So far I'm past the half-way point of book one and things are lining up nicely. I'm developing a system f...

Re: What would the slavers do?
I have to agree with DCCFan. The slavers face a tough choice; capture/kill the party or relocate their operation. The best possible outcome for them would be to capture the party and sell them to the orcs (earning them a profit and removing a pesky problem at the same time). However, don't forget th...

Re: What would the slavers do?
IMHO, if Ikenvar is still alive, he would probably set about doing something particularly nasty, like building a large smokey fire in the base of the tower to force the players out and demanding they throw their weapons, etc., out of one of the high windows before exiting. Another thing he might do ...

Re: Posting Castle Whiterock Conversions to Pathfinder
Ah, that makes sense. I hadn't considered that the stats editor would be different from the person developing the level. DUH! The game was also fun for me to run. Having a newb or two in the group is always exciting. Plus, there were two veteran players, one of whom has been playing in games I run f...

Re: Posting Castle Whiterock Conversions to Pathfinder
I started working on level 2 last night, when I noticed that the orc modifications didn't line up. Per "The Orcs of Castle Whiterock" inset on p. 42, the base statline of the orcs in this dungeon should be S18, D9, C12, I8, W7, Ch 8 or 10 (depending on whether the Whiterock bonus of +2 to ...

I know what you mean! I've been itching to run this beastie for several years. I will definitely keep posting. Another good thing about this is that it will keep me working on the PFRPG conversion block for the module, which King Joseph promised to add to his supplementary material.

Another Whiterock campaign begins! (Pathfinder)
Hi all! Friday night we had our first game (after 6+ months of stall-outs, scheduling conflicts and life-interrupting events!) and I think we're off to a good start. The party was composed of a barbarian, a ranger, a rogue (moving into ranger/rogue) and a halfling stand-up comic bard. The first game...
