Little flavor idea for steamborgs

I had a thought about steamborgs and armor. Steamborgs get light and medium armor proficiency free. This means that steamborgs wearing breastplates are going to be the norm. Now, he doesn't exactly wear that breastplate in the traditional fashion, with straps and buckles and such: no, it's actually ...

I quite like the Infinite Clock Knight. I might tweak its abilities a bit if I actually used it, but offhand I can't think of how. Haven't had a chance to ponder the others yet. Keep 'em coming, though.

I'm really liking this. I particularly appreciate the use of Spelljammer for background, and I like the work you've done on the climate. You might want to think about how it was possible for civilization to develop at all with such limited water. On the other hand, you might not. Sensible biospheres...

So that's, what, the sixth? Having a mech schematic sheet will make my scheming much easier. :)

is the minimum crew to opperate a mech based on modified or un-modified PU? (i assume that the percentage of crew is rounded up, so 2.5 on a gargantuan steam mech comes out as 3) Unmodified, as Mr. Goodman said, plus I think you round down if the fraction is less than .5--the Barbagula (size Huge) ...

Okay, a more serious answer this time. :) I'd say the post-lunar rain terrain would be too rough to be passable to wheeled vehicles in many places. (Although the book does mention mech tribes towing wagons behind their mechs.) The total lack of maintained roads wouldn't help, either. I could see a f...

See the second post in this thread for my opinion on why multipedal mechs aren't more common. :D

Re: planes, trains, and automobiles

I'd answer this the same as with the question about multi-legged mechs: sure, all the vehicles you listed would be much more practical, but they're not as cool . That's pretty much the major rationale for giant humanoid mecha in any setting, really. They don't make sense, but they're cool, so we'll ...

Automatic crossbows

First off, thanks for the Dragonmech forum! Now I can start a new thread for this topic without feeling bad. :D (from this thread) when you make a combination of steam powers that performs automatic attacks, what attack bonus, if any, does it use? for instance, if i used the repeating crossbow + aut...

if you're gonna complain about damage dice progression (and i agree, it's too steep a jump to suddenly start adding d20s) that i'll add this: i don't like how the damage dice from a mech slam attack progresses past Colossal II... up to that point, it's pretty good, but then it starts using alternat...

i do have to disagree about amps not affecting boilers and hydraulic armor though, as you quoted it accepts "Any nonmagical source of heat, cold, light, or other energy . Other energy such as Steam power or hydraulic power, it's physics. It isn't physics, or at least not real-world physics. In...

One of the guys in my campaign used a taser-like device, so I'll use that as an example. He started with a regular spark generator. That did 1d4 nonlethal damage with a melee touch attack. He then added a pump, which gave it a range of 5 feet. He then added an amplifier, which made it 10 ft. range/...

if i was a mech-devil and wanted to fight unarmed, had a coglayer lackey and had him incorporate a boiler into my mech engine would it mean 1) all physical properties of mech double aka str 30 = 60, speed doubles, etc? 2) all physical bonuses are doubled aka +10 str mod = +20 or 3) damage from phys...

Coglaying question

Man, I'm glad to see some other people finally posting about Dragonmech. I picked it up on a whim last month, and for a while I thought I was the only one reading it. Hi, everybody. There seems to be a bit of confusion about how steam powers work. I'd like to share my conclusions and see if they're ...
